Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 25 Women’s Lacrosse Tops Skidmore, 11-4, in Liberty League First Round

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 25 Ithaca College women's lacrosse defeated Skidmore College, 11-4, in the opening round of the Liberty League Tournament at Higgins Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The win improves Ithaca's record to 11-7 on the season and is the 500th victory in program history. IC will now move on to play Vassar College in the semifinal round on Friday in Ithaca.

For the second straight meeting, Skidmore struck quickly to take a 1-0 just 37 seconds into the game. The Bombers then rattled off three straight goals to build a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Caroline Wise scored IC's first goal at the 12:13 mark and then Maizy Veitch tallied the other two goals late in the period. Chloe Nordyke assisted on the first Veitch goal at the 3:54 mark.

Skidmore got back on the board early in the second quarter to pull to within a goal, but the Bombers then ran away with the game with six straight goals, including four in the second quarter to take a 7-2 edge into halftime. During that four-goal run in the quarter, Nordyke, Wise, Sydney Phillips and Leigh Naturale scored. Wise also assisted on two of the goals.

As the lead grew to 9-2 after goals from Wise and Nordyke in the third quarter, the Thoroughbreds ended the run just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter. IC would respond with tallies from Maddie Hall and Nordyke to make it an 11-3 difference before Skidmore scored the final goal of the game.

A major reason for limiting the Thoroughbreds to just four goals was the play of Lexi Held in cage. Held made 18 saves in the game, coming up just one short of her career-high, which she set earlier this year and landed her Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors yesterday.

Wise paced IC with six points in the game with three goals and three assists, while Nordyke had four points on three goals and one assist.

Ithaca will look to avenge a 13-12 loss earlier this season at Vassar and move onto the Liberty League title game on Sunday against either No. 3 William Smith or Union.
