Ithaca Softball Shutout RPI and Move on to Tomorrow’s Championship

TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team saw Riley Piromalli spin a one-hitter as the offense exploded for five runs in the top of the third as the Bombers defeated the No. 1 seeded RPI 5-0 on Friday. With the win, Ithaca advances to the Liberty League Championship where they need to win one more game against the winner of the loser's bracket, which will be determined later this evening.

Riley Piromalli picked up where she left off yesterday as she mowed down the RPI lineup setting them down in order through the first two innings as she picked up three strikeouts along the way. The Bombers offense loaded the bases to begin the top of the third frame.

Madison Casale opened the inning with a walk and Jessie Lopez slapped a single right back up the middle and the bases loaded up after Sela Scheinman battled and ended up walking during her at-bat. Patience at the plate prevailed once again for IC as Hudson Hassler drew a six-pitch walk that drove in the opening run off of Brooke Sroczinski who came in relief of Alexis Cooke. Allison Dell'Orto would make it 2-0 as she reached on an error and Tava Kasper earned an RBI driving in Scheinman on a fielder's choice.

Belle de Oliveira broke it open hitting a bases clearing single down the right field line that made it 5-0 in favor of Ithaca. Piromalli continued to dominate in the pitching circle holding the Engineers hitless through the first five innings. She continued her dominance picking up another punchout, while forcing a groundout and popout to bring her no-no into the seventh.

She got the first batter to pop up, but Gabby Comeau broke up the no-hitter singling to center. That turned out to be the lone hit for RPI as Piromalli picked up her 10th strikeout and the final out was recorded on a routine fly ball to de Oliveira.

The Bombers will wait and see who they will play in Saturday's championship game. First pitch for that is slated for 12 p.m. with the if necessary game to follow.
