Ithaca Takes Down RIT and the University of Rochester, Sweeping in Every Category

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's rowing team faced off against their Liberty League Rivals from the University of Rochester and RIT. William Smith was also in attendance at the race.
 
The second consecutive home weekend for the Bombers offered many different racing opportunities for the team. Many rowers had multiple opportunities to race down the course against different competition.
 
The race conditions were again great with a sunny sky and temperatures in the mid-40s, and a slight headwind on the racecourse.
 
The first race of the regatta featured the women's first varsity eight. The crew for this week featured the same student-athletes but in a different lineup. The lineup includes Carlie Wohlfahrt as coxswain and rowers Allison ArndtLaura Trainor, Taylor VolmrichLily Babcock, Erin Trojan, Maggie FarberKarley Whalen, and Devi de Oliveira.
 
The Bombers went head-to-head with RIT to start. Ithaca defeated RIT by a comfortable margin. The Bombers were able to finish the course in 7:29.3 compared to the Tiger's 7:40.4.
 
As for the 1V's second race of the day, the crew would go up against the University of Rochester. The Bombers overtook the Yellowjackets with a big win finishing in just about 7:28.7 compared to 7:52.4.
 
The next boat to race for Ithaca was the women's third varsity eight which went up against the University of Rochester. The boat featured Zoe Kwasnicki, Chloe Croft, Nicole De La Mota, Zoe Paradis Stern, Melanie Belmont, Lauren Hitesman, Emmeline Robinson, Skylar Moresi, and Avery Lavergne. The Bombers were victorious against the Yellowjackets, the Bombers completed the course in 7:55.8 compared to U of R's 8:12.4.  
 
The women's 2V would launch next where they would take on RIT in their first race of the day. The lineup included Caroline Hoskins, Emma Anderson, Katrina Pohlman, Emma Hammel, Brenna Hanratty, Ashley Bailey, Kai Linke, Samantha Gallagher, and Erika Elcsisin.
 
In the boat's first race of the day, the Bombers took down the Tigers by roughly 28 seconds. Ithaca completed the course in 7:57.1 compared to RIT's 8:25.4.
 
The 2V crushed the Yellowjackets in their second race of the day. With a sharp headwind, the Bombers finished the course in 8:05.9 compared to U of R's 8:37.9.
 
The novice eight went head-to-head with Rochester's novices and came out victorious with a margin of about 24 seconds. The Bombers finished the course in 8:32.2 compared to the Yellowjackets 8:56.9.
 
The novice crew featured Emma Kelly, Ariana Wunderle, Emma Thorne , Anna Capodilupo, Lucy Hogan, Lauren Sturm, Melanie Heim, Katherine Tobias, Hope Oliveira.
 
All in all, it was a massive day of winning for the Bombers as they swept the competition in every event. The team will continue to practice this week to train for their next race against Marietta and Skidmore.
 
Next weekend, the Bombers will honor their seniors at Senior Day as the team will host its final home race of the season. Racing is expected to begin at around 11 am with the ceremony taking place after the final races.
