ROME, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's rowing team traveled to Rome, New York today to face off against crews from Hamilton College. The Bombers competed in a variety of race categories, in head-to-head heats.
The race, hosted by Hamilton College, took place on a three-laned course along the Erie Canal. The course is a straight waterway that is wooded along the sides with few landmarks. Racing conditions were poor with a tailwind coming down the course. There were clouds throughout the course with on and off rain throughout the day.
The first race of the day for the Bombers featured the women's third varsity eight. This week's lineup included

Chloe Croft,
Nicole De La Mota,
Zoe Paradis Stern,
Anna Capodilupo,
Kai Lincke,
Lauren Hitesman,
Skylar Moresi, and
Avery LaVergne.
The 3V fell to Hamilton with a final time of 7:24.8 compared to the Continental's 7:16.2.
Next up, the women's first varsity eight took the course. The crew featured the usual lineup consisting of
Carlie Wohlfahrt,
Allison Arndt,
Laura Trainor,
Taylor Volmrich,
Lily Babcock,
Erin Trojan,
Maggie Farber,
Karley Whalen, and
Devi de Oliveira.
The 1V had a strong race and edged out Hamilton by a margin of about seven seconds. Ithaca had a final course time of 6:50.9 compared to Hamilton who went 6:58.1.
The next crew to take the course for IC was the women's second varsity eight. This week's lineup included
Caroline Hoskins,
Emma Anderson,
Katrina Pohlman,
Emma Hammel,
Brenna Hanratty,
Ashley Bailey,
Erika Elcsisin,
Samantha Gallagher, and
Melanie Belmont.
In this race, the 2V was able to remain out in front of Hamilton and defeat them by a margin of about 11 seconds. The Bombers finished with a final time of 7:00.9 compared to the Continental's 7:11.7.
The last race of the day for the women featured the fourth varsity eight. This crew featured many of Ithaca's novice rowers. The Bombers would fall to Hamilton and finish with a final time of 7:37.5. Hamilton finished the race in 7:31.9.
Overall, the Bombers had a strong day on the racecourse. The team placed first in two races and finished with some competitive pieces, despite the conditions.
The team will train for a big weekend of racing next weekend. The Bombers will race twice over the weekend at both the Liberty League and New York State Rowing Championships. These races will be held in Saratoga Springs, New York and will take place on May 5 and 6.
The Liberty League Championship will be the first opportunity for the Bombers to see some new competition and compete to clinch a post season berth and a trip to the NCAA DIII Rowing Championships which will be held in Camden, New Jersey in the end of May.
