ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's rowing team honored their seniors as they raced against Skidmore College, Marietta College, and Cornell's club team in the final home race of the season. Races took place throughout the morning and early afternoon, with the ceremony rounding out the day.
The team honored its seven seniors after the races ceased. All of the seniors have made valuable contributions to the team throughout their years with the program. The following seniors were honored:
Katrina Pohlman has been a four-year member of the team. She joined the team at IC having rowed in high school with Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club. Throughout her time with the Bombers, she has won many races, and has been a part of both the sweep and sculling teams. Katrina is the is the daughter of Gretchen and Eric Pohlman.
Taylor Volmrich joined the team as a first year in 2019. They came to the South Hill with rowing experience at Utah Crew. They have been a member of both the sculling and rowing teams. Taylor was elected captain by their teammates last spring and has helped lead the team so far this year. Taylor's parents are Fiona and Jeff Volmrich.
Brenna Hanratty, another one of the team's captains, has been with the team all four years she has attended IC. Brenna rowed for seven years prior to coming to Ithaca at Shenendehowa High School. With the Bombers, Brenna has raced with both the sweep and sculling squads. She is the daughter of Sean and Mary Hanratty.
Lauren Hitesman made her Bomber debut on the novice squad during the fall season in 2019. As a novice, she quickly picked up the sport and helped the team win many medals. Throughout her time on the team, Lauren has been involved with both the sculling and sweep teams. Lauren is the daughter of Penny and Kevin Hitesman.
Erika Elcsisin joined the Bombers as a novice in her first year in the fall of 2019. She was able to learn the sport fast and make an impact on the team. Erika has won races in both the sweep and sculling categories. Last spring, she was elected captain by her teammates and has led the Bombers since then. Erika is the daughter of Linda & Mike Elcsisin.
Karley Whalen came to the South Hill as a novice rower. She quickly picked up the sport and rose through the ranks of the team. She has helped the first varsity boat make noise over the last few seasons. Karley has been involved with both the sculling and sweep teams while at IC. Karley is the daughter of John and Karen Whalen.
Carlie Wohlfahrt competed on the crew team at Arlington High School, where she was a rower. Upon coming to the South Hill, Carlie made the switch to become a coxswain. Since doing so, she has led her crews and is now the leader of the first varsity boat for the Bombers. Carlie is the daughter of Todd and Heidi Wohlfahrt.
As for the day's racing, the conditions were great. Temperatures were in the mid 70s, and a sunny sky stretching over the course. There was a tailwind coming down the course at some points throughout the racing.
The first race of the day for the Bombers featured the first varsity eight. The crew featured

Karley Whalen, and Devi de Oliviera. The Bombers went head-to-head against Skidmore College and Marietta College.
The Bombers remained out in front for the race and defeated both schools, finishing the 2000m course in 6:56.1 compared to Skidmore's 7:08.1 and Marietta's 7:50.4.
Next up, was the novice eight. Coming off a Liberty League Boat of the Week recognition last week, the crew consisting of Sami Smith, Ariana Wunderle,
Kai Lincke,
Lucy Hogan,
Hope Oliveira, Zoe Silver,
Melanie Heim, Katie Tobias, and
Emma Thorne went up against the Cornell club team. The Bombers fell to their opponent and finished the race in 7:52.9.
Lastly, the Bombers 2V and 3V faced off against Skidmore's 2V in the regatta's final race. The 2V lineup included

Avery LaVergne. The 2V and 3V both defeated Skidmore by a comfortable margin. The Bombers' 2V and 3V finished with final times of 7:14.6 and 7:27.6, respectively, compared to Skidmore's 7:52.3.
All in all, it was a beautiful day on the Inlet for racing and a strong showing for Ithaca. The team honored their seniors and celebrated their accomplishments as Ithaca College student-athletes.
The team will train this week as they prepare for their first road trip of the season and head to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on WPI. Races are scheduled to begin around 9 am for the Bombers.
