ITHACA, N.Y. - The nationally ranked No. 10 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham Devils, 22-7, at Higgins Stadium on March 4 to improve to 2-1 on the season. Twelve different players scored for Ithaca in the win.
Caroline Wise led the Bombers with four goals and two assists, followed by
Sydney Phillips and
Chloe Nordyke with three each. Maizey Veitch led the team in assists with three, while
Kayla Howley had four saves in goal.
Hayley Armstrong scored the first goal of the day for the Bombers to give them an early lead within the first 1:30 minutes of play. However, the Devils caught up shortly after as they scored on a free play with just under 11 minutes left in the first quarter and tied things up 1-1.
The Bombers were quick to respond as Wise found the back of the net with 9:39 on the clock for the first quarter. Ithaca continued its offensive momentum as Phillips adds another goal within the minute, which Wise followed with her second goal of the day just 22 seconds later. The two goals put the Bombers up 4-1 over the Devils within the first quarter alone.
Ithaca just kept building off its streak after
Lily Cody picks up a ground ball and runs a fast break just before passing off to Nordyke, who shot and scored the Bombers fifth goal of the day. Nordyke continued to stay hot, scoring a second goal just seconds later again thanks to an assist from Phillips. Within the next minute, Nordyke scored her third goal of the game and gave the Bombers a 7-1 lead with 6:33 still left in the first quarter.
Wise also added her third goal of the game shortly after Nordyke. With just over 4 minutes on the clock, Phillips adds her second goal of the day off an assist from Nordyke. After the Bombers long offensive streak, the Devils played the ball in their offensive end of the field briefly before
Olivia Puppo scooped up a ground ball and sent it down the field for the Bombers. Ithaca added its tenth goal of the day with just over a minute left in the first quarter when
Elizabeth Green found the back of the net.
Maddie Hall added her first goal of the day to finish the first quarter off 11-1 for Ithaca.
The Devils scored the first goal of the second quarter with 13:21 on the clock, but Wise added her fourth of the day within the next minute.
Leigh Naturale,
Lexi Kellish Elizabeth Green and Veitch all added their first goals of the day in the second quarter. Armstrong also tallied her second of the day to put the Bombers up 17-2 to end the first half. Wise also added two assists and Veitch one.
Florham scored the first goal of the quarter again going into the third, but that did not hold the Bombers back for long.
Kristina Rae scored her first goal of the game on a free position shot shortly after the Devils goal. Florham added its fourth goal of the day with 4:30 on the clock, but Ithaca responds quickly again with another goal from Phillips. Ithaca led 19-4 going into the final quarter of play.
Cody scored her first goal of the game to start off the fourth quarter for the Bombers.
Gabby Rivera and Naturale both tallied goals in the last 15 minutes of play while the Devils added three more points to their side of the scoreboard. The Bombers defeated the FDU Florham Devils 22-7.
The Bombers hit the road to play the University of Scranton on Wednesday March 8. Ithaca will be back at Higgins Stadium on Saturday March 11 at 1 p.m.
