ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team was back in action on Friday as they earned a 3-2 comeback road win over SUNY Oneonta, before the teams tied game two at 11 runs apiece due to darkness after six innings.
Ithaca 3, SUNY Oneonta 2 (F)
The Red Dragons plated both of their runs in the bottom half of the first inning as Marissa Nagel tripled down the right field line and crossed home plate off a wild pitch. An RBI double from Julia Serena gave Oneonta a 2-0 lead.
Ithaca mounted its rally in the top half of the third frame as with two runners on and two outs,
Tava Kasper rocketed a two-RBI triple of her own that scored both
Hudson Hassler and
Kailey Collins. Kasper would score during the next at-bat crossing home plate on a passed ball giving the Bombers the 3-2 lead.
Down to their final three outs, a pinch-hit single and a hit batter put runners on second and third base but
Riley Piromalli slammed the door shut inducing a pair of ground outs. With the win, Piromalli improved to 3-3 on the season as she struck out nine, while only allowing four hits.
Hudson Hassler finished 2-for-4 as she also recorded a stolen base.
Ithaca 11, SUNY Oneonta 11 (F-6 Innings)
The Bombers picked up where they left off offensively going up 3-0 in the top of the first frame of a pair of bases loaded walks and a
Cynthia Ehrenfeld single. Oneonta had an immediate response going for a nine-run rally in the bottom half of the inning.
Ithaca closed the gap with a four run second inning as they scored a couple of runs off a defensive miscue from the Red Dragons.
Kailey Collins then blasted a two-run homer, her first of the season.
In the fourth,
Belle de Oliveira hit an RBI-double to bring Ithaca within three then
Jessie Lopez singled to get runners on the corners with two outs. Lopez stole second and with no one covering the base on the throw down, Oliveria was able to score and make it a two-run game.
Ithaca tied it up in the fifth after Kasper singled up the middle and
Madison Casale hit a sacrifice fly.
The game was called due to darkness after the conclusion of the sixth inning with the score knotted at 11 runs apiece. In the pitching circle,
Anna Cornell gave up a pair of earned runs in 1.0 innings pitched with
Bella Scolaro pitching 5.0, while allowing two runs off two hits and striking out three.
Ithaca College who improved to 8-3-1 will return to action on Saturday, April 1 when they host SUNY Geneseo for their first home doubleheader of the season. Sunday's scheduled doubleheader with the University of Scranton has been postponed.
