Piromalli Spins a Gem as Softball Splits with St. John Fisher

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team split its doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against St. John Fisher University. The Bombers won by mercy rule in five innings in game one with an 8–0 victory and were blanked 2–0 by the Cardinals in game two.

Game 1 – Ithaca College 8, St. John Fisher 0 (F-5)

The Bombers got started with an 8–0 victory in game one. Riley Piromalli dominated in the circle, setting the tone with three strikeouts in the first inning. She cruised through the next two innings, with eight of her first nine outs coming from the strikeout.

The Bombers' offense got on the board quickly, and a big five-run fourth inning all but put the game to bed. The Bombers eight runs came from six hits and five walks.

Ithaca's lineup got into action quickly in the first inning with a leadoff double by Sela Scheinman, who advanced to third on a dropped third strike. Allison Dell'Orto brought her home for the first score with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.

The Bombers added two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3–0 lead. Hudson Hassler leadoff the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Dell'Orto walked, and both runners advanced on another wild pitch to score Hassler. Dell'Orto was brought home from a sacrifice fly by Kailey Collins

The big fourth inning got started with back-to-back walks from Belle de Oliveira and Scheinman. Hassler roped a single back up the middle to bring de Oliveira home. The Bombers loaded the bases and Kailey Collins drew a walk for another score. Hassler scored on a passed ball and a single by Tava Kasper brought Dell'Orto home. The Bombers took an 8–0 lead with a sacrifice fly by Haley Petrucci

Piromalli closed the door in the top of the fifth, as the Bombers were victorious via the mercy rule. She finished with nine strikeouts, allowing just two hits. At the plate, Hassler and Tava Kasper each led the way with two hits and an RBI.

Game 2 – Ithaca College 0, St. John Fisher 2

It was a pitcher's duel in game two as the Cardinals took game two by a score of 2–0. Anna Cornell was in the circle for the Bombers, allowing two runs on one hit over five innings with five strikeouts. St. John Fisher's Ainsley Evanetski went seven innings, allowing no runs and five hits.

The Bombers threatened to score in the first, loading the bases with no outs, but three popups ended the inning.

The Cardinals' two-run fourth inning was kicked off by a one-out homerun by Allie Klonow, the first Cornell has given up on the season. The next two batters reached base, and a fielding error on a dropped third strike allowed a second run to score.

The Bombers started a two-out rally in the seventh, loading the bases. Kasper came up to the plate and drove the ball to left field, but the left fielder tracked it down to end the game.

With Sunday's split, Ithaca College move to a 9–4–1 record on the season. The Bombers return to action on Saturday, traveling to York College of Pennsylvania for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
