NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Ithaca College softball team swept a Monday doubleheader in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic against Wilson College and McDaniel College. The Bombers took the opener, blanking Wilson 5–0 and walking off McDaniel in the 8th, winning 3-2. With the two wins, the Bombers have improved to a 3–1 start to their season.
Game 1: Ithaca 5, Wilson 0
The Bombers kicked the scoring off in the first inning, as
Kailey Collins doubled into center field, bringing home
Allison Dell'Orto from second. Collins was thrown out, trying to stretch her hit to third.
The Bombers extended their lead to 4–0 in the third inning.
Cynthia Ehrenfeld took Phoenix pitcher, Madis Knerr, the other way with a double into right field that plated Collins and
Hudson Hassler.
Taylor Andrews immediately followed it up with a double of her own into left, driving Ehrenfeld home to extend the Bombers' lead to four.
In the bottom of the fifth inning with Collins on third base,
Tava Kasper hit a sacrifice fly into left field, scoring Collins which increased the Bombers lead to 5–0.
The Bombers continued to blank The Phoenix through their final two innings, closing out their first game 5–0.
Bella Scolaro closed the game for the Bombers, who struck out two and allowed one hit.
Riley Piromalli blanked The Phoenix through six, as she struck out 10 and only allowed one total hit. Piromalli gained her first win of the season and improved to 1-1 through two starts.
Ehrenfled earned two RBIs while Collins scored two runs on a team-leading three hits.
Game 2: Ithaca 3, McDaniel 2 (8 Innings)
The scoring opened in the top of the third when Evie Craig hit a two-RBI double down the line for the Green Terror. The double brought Katy Newton and Makayla Calamita home to put McDaniel on the board 2–0.
The Green Terror kept their two-run lead until the Bombers tied it 2–2 in the bottom of the fifth. After
Madison Casale doubled to left center,
Belle de Oliveira singled to second base and advanced to second on an error, which plated Casale. An
Allison Dell'Orto single advanced de Oliviera to third before a Hassler double to center field brought her home to tie the game.
Both the Bombers and the Green Terror blanked each other through the first seven innings, leading to extras.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, It was
Kailey Collins who came out as the hero walking off the Green Terror with a single to center field, which brought Hassler home to win the game 3–2.
Anna Cornell pitched all eight innings for the Bombers and only allowed two runs. Cornell also struck out 12.
Hassler led the team with two RBIs off of one hit. Collins also brought in one run.
The Bombers return to action on Wednesday when they face off against Susquehanna University and Suffolk University in another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
