NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -The Ithaca College softball team continued their series of games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Wednesday.
The Bombers split the day with a loss to Susquehanna University and a statement win against Suffolk University in the evening's nightcap.
Game 1: Ithaca 2, Suffolk 7
Riley Piromalli (1-2) took the mound in game one of the day's doubleheader for IC. Piromalli struck out 10 while walking six, ultimately allowing all seven runs for Susquehanna. Facing her, on the mound for Susquehanna was Hannah Foust (3-2). She pitched all seven innings but was only able to strike out three Ithaca batters.
Offensively, the Bombers were held to only four hits against the River Hawks.
Susquehanna hit first where they would score three runs and get off to an early advantage over the Bombers. In the first inning, scoring for the River Hawks came from Meredith Pavlik, Ashley Warner and Erin Bean.
In the bottom of the first, Tava Kasper reached base in the first inning on a fielder's choice, moving Allison Dell'Orto, who walked and Hudson Hassler, who reached first on an error.
Haley Petrucci got things going in the scoring column for the Bombers with a single which would score two unearned runs from Dell'Orto and Hassler.
The game would go back and forth for the most part until the top of the sixth inning where Susquehanna broke it open tacking on four additional runs. For the River Hawks, Lexi Palumbo was hit by a pitch which drove in a run from Hailey Kaba. During the following at-bat, Pavlik would score an unearned run on a passed ball thrown to first base. Warner would score next for Susquehanna.
Game 2: Ithaca 15, Suffolk 2
In Ithaca's second game of the day against Suffolk University, Anna Cornell (3-0) took the mound. Cornell would pitch the entire game for IC and only allowed two earned runs. Cornell struck out 13 batters and only walked one, while allowing seven hits.
For the Rams, Ashlyn Conley took the bulk of the workload on the mound while allowing ten hits, one walk, and only striking out one batter.
The Bombers started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Tara Kasper singled to left field driving in Sela Scheinman from third base.
IC would hold onto its 1-0 lead until the top of the third inning where three more runs would be added on. Hudson Hassler singled to start the inning. In the following at bat, Olivia Comolli would drive in a run from Hassler. Haley Petrucci hit a massive triple which would help bring in another run from Comolli. Next, Madison Casale singled to center field scoring Petrucci from third.
The Rams would score their first and only runs in the bottom of the third off a double and single from Ally Cifaratta and Lily O'Neil, respectively.
In the top of the fifth inning, the scoring was plentiful for the Bombers. Madison Casale hit a massive home run to left field, scoring two runs. Allison Dell'Orto and Sela Scheinman would later score, growing the Bombers lead to 8-2.
The score would remain 8-2 until the top of the seventh inning. Kailey Collins and Dylan Delaney scored off a strong double from Haley Petrucci. Another highlight at bat came from Kailen Winkelblech who homered bringing in three more runs, on a pitch-hit blast.
The Bombers would close out the game and keep the Rams at two runs the whole game, with a final score of 15-2.
The team will recoup and face another doubleheader tomorrow. The Bombers will first face off against Mount Aloysius College with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Following that game, the Bombers will face Castleton University with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
