ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost, hosted its seventh (sixth in-person) annual scholar-athlete luncheon on Thursday, February 9. The luncheon was held in Emerson Suites on campus to celebrate the exceptional achievements for current junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes.

Each student-athlete that was at the luncheon has obtained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 or higher fordave lissy luncheon over five-plus semesters. Deans and faculty advisors of the student-athletes also attended the luncheon on Thursday afternoon. And for the first time in attendance this year were the Ithaca College Board of Trustees.

Deputy Director of Athletics, Erienne Roberts, and Associate Chair of Physical Therapy and Faculty Athletic Representative, Barb Belyea '82, spearheaded the initiative to honor the student-athletes' performances in the classroom, and worked in conjunction with the Provost Office along with President of Ithaca College, Dr. La Jerne Terry Cornish.

Both Roberts and Belyea spoke at the luncheon, as well as Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Susan Bassett '79, Dave Lissy '87, Chair for the Board of Trustees and Melanie Stein, Provost.

Senior Cameryn Nichols of the Ithaca gymnastics program served as the keynote speakers at Thursday's luncheon. Nichols has been a four-year member of the gymnastics team and delivered remarks that focused on resiliency and bouncing back from struggles, which resonated with the entire crowd as the scholar-athletes in attendance all dealt with canceled seasons during their careers at IC due to the pandemic.

Nichols has been named an All-American during her gymnastics career and recently just set a new school record on the beam with a score of 9.850.
