POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team continued its winning ways within the Liberty League on Friday evening at Clarkson University as the Bombers took down the Golden Knights, 91-76, inside Alumni Gymnasium to improve to 16-6 on the year and 12-3 in league play. IC has now won five straight games and is 12-2 during the 2023 portion of the season.
Despite the 15-point disparity at the end of regulation, Ithaca and Clarkson played to a highly-contest opening eight minutes of action, as there were eight leads changes and one tie during that stretch.
After a 21-21 deadlock,
Triston Wennersten drilled a corner 3-pointer to give the Bombers the lead for good, 24-21, at the 11:37 mark of the first half, which sparked a 14-2 run over the next four minutes of play.
Clarkson answered with an 11-1 spurt to pull to within two points at 36-34 with just over five minutes left in the half, but IC would score the next 11 points and took a 51-38 lead into intermission. Over the final 4:48 of the opening half,
Logan Wendell scored seven of his game-high 23 points.
Wendell finished the evening 9-of-21 shooting from the floor and 4-of-13 from 3-point range.
It was all Bombers in the second half, as Clarkson could only manage to get to within eight points at 71-63 with 11:02 remaining in the contest. From there, IC scored 18 of the next 20 points to establish a 24-point edge, 89-65, with 6:16 on the clock. The Golden Knights would close out the contest on an 11-2 run to account for the 91-76 final.
After Wendell's 23 points,
Luka Radovich secured his fourth consecutive double-double with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting with 10 rebounds. Wennersten added 11 points and six boards in 18 minutes off the bench, while
Skylar Sinon dished out eight assists with seven points and four rebounds.
George Sikoryak III added nine points and
Zach Warech finished the evening with eight points and four rebounds.
Aidan Holmes would also chip in six points.
The Bombers will return to play tomorrow afternoon with a 4 p.m. tip at St. Lawrence. IC holds a two-game lead for the top spot in the Liberty League over St. Lawrence, which has won seven of its last nine contests. A win over the Saints tomorrow will clinch the No. 1 overall seed for IC in the upcoming Liberty League Championship Tournament.
