CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming & diving team was back in action on Saturday as they squared off against its rivals SUNY Cortland as the Bombers got back on track in a 172-127 road win. The team claimed a victory in the meet opening 200-yard medley and also came away with seven individual wins.
The Bombers won the 200-yard medley on the backs of
Liam Murphy,
James Collishaw,
Michael Paulos and
Matthew Mitros as they teamed up for a time of 1:37.39, which was over two seconds faster than the foursome from Cortland.
Matthew Stevens came up with a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle as he touched the final wall in 10:16.38. The Bombers claimed their first individual win in the 200-yard freestyle with
Hunter Daur besting the field at 1:50:38 with
Mike Ekert coming in third with a time of 1:51.63.
Alec Kutsner and
Liam Murphy came up with a second and third-place result, respectively in the 100-yard backstroke with time of 55:78 and 55.90. Another Bombers win came in the 100-yard breaststroke with
Joe Pezzini coming home with a time of 1:02.56 as
Matthew Janssen finished the race third with a recorded time of 1:02.94.
Santiago Ludwig showed off his speed in the 200-yard butterfly besting the field with a time of 2:01.09 with
James Kissel earning his team another four points with his second place result and time of 2:04.42. It was all Ithaca in the 50-yard freestyle with
James Collishaw (21.88) who was followed by teammate
Matthew Mitros (22.53).
Collishaw would go on to take first place in the 100-yard free with a time of 47.26, which was over two seconds faster than the Red Dragons swimmer who finished second as
Matthew Mitros placed third with a time of 50.60.
It was another second-third finish in the 200-yard backstroke as in the 22
nd event of Saturday's dual action saw
Evan Wardrop coming in second at 2:02.32 and teammate
Ryan Pillion was third with a time of 2:08.33.
The sixth and seventh individual wins came from
Joe Pezzini in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.27 and
Ryan Cooke came home with a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a finals time of 4:53.36. The Bombers claimed first place in the 200-yard IM with
Matthew Janssen besting the field with a time of 2:01.24.
The Bombers were once again first in the final event of the afternoon the 400-yard freestyle relay with
Matthew Mitros,
Alec Kutsner,
Ryan Cooke and
James Collishaw teaming up to finish just under three seconds faster than the Red Dragons A-relay squad at 3:14.64.
In diving action,
Kian Long was the best Bombers finisher in the 1-meter with a score of 202.40 and he also came in fourth place in the 3-meter event was a finals score of 231.95.
With the dual win, Ithaca College improved to 2-1 on the season and will compete at RIT on Saturday, November 18 in its final tune up before the annual Bomber Invitational.
