ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team was defeated 4-2 on Friday in one of the Liberty League semifinal matchups to No. 2 seeded RIT. The Bombers saw a first half goal from
Rosie Bostian netted in the 36
th minute that gave them the 1-0 lead but RIT scored four in the second half.
The Tigers notched the first shot of the match in the opening seconds as Elena Onodera's attempt sailed left of the goal frame. The Bombers began to gain possession in the opposing third of the field and forced Emily Sanchez into a save at the 15:05 mark when Kaelyn Fernadez ripped a shot on target.
The teams traded the ball back and forth with neither able to register a dangerous attempt until the 36
th minute when Ithaca's
Kaelyn Fernandez took an attempt within the box that hit the left post as RIT's defensive backline attempted to clear the ball, but it was possessed by Fernandez. She gathered and fed
Rosie Bostian who settled and slotted it into the lower left corner of the net to put the Bombers up 1-0.
The Bombers went into the halftime break with the 1-0 advantage. RIT was able to find the equalizer in the 59
th minute when Roberta Moger assisted on an Oliva Harris effort. The Tigers would score go up when Elena Onodera scored on a breakaway opportunity in the 68
th minute and they found the back of the net again in the 77
th minute making the most of a corner kick chance. RIT went on to make it 4-1 in the 78
th minute when Abby Umbenhaur scored an unassisted goal.
Ithaca would score the final goal of the game to cut the deficit to 4-2 as
Devin Sylvia bested the opposing keeper. The Tigers swung the match in their favor outshooting Ithaca 10-3 in the second half with the majority of the efforts placed on target.
The Bombers will wait and see if they have done enough for an at-large bid at 10-4-1 overall as the NCAA Selection Show will take place on Monday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m.
