No. 23 Ithaca Volleyball Picks up a Win over St. John Fisher on the First Night of the Wid Guisler

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The No. 23 ranked Ithaca College volleyball team returned to action on Friday participating in the Wid Guisler Invitational as they took on St. John Fisher University. The Bombers earned a convincing three-set win over the Cardinals as they hit .244% for the match and really limited their attacking errors at the net.

VS. ST. JOHN FISHER UNIVERSITY (25-21, 25-17, 25-15)
Ithaca opened the first set on a run and put together a 7-3 lead as the team made the most of a St. John Fisher service error and a pair of attacking errors. The Cardinals would mount a comeback and tied it at seven and go up before IC scored three-straight making it 10-10 after a Faith Sabatier kill. Ithaca controlled the middle portion of the set and would score five in a row to build a 17-12 lead that was capped off by a successful Jamie Koopman swing. The Bombers were able to bring it to a set point at 24-18 with a Naomi Clauhs kill and they went up 1-0 after a Faith Sabatier effort.

In the second set, Fisher had an early lead off back-to-back aces by Young, but a run by Ithaca made that lead short lived. The Bombers strung together four in a row on the heels of opponent attacking errors and would built its lead to 21-10 after Ellie Benedict caught fire at the service line four three-straight aces. The Cardinals would score five consecutive points, but it was too little to late as Ithaca claimed the second set at 25-17.

The teams traded early runs in the third set as Fisher trailed by just one at 13-12, but Ithaca went on a big run that started with an Ella Graper kill that sparked them to lead 18-12. The Bombers would close out the set scoring six in a row taking it 25-15.

The Bombers saw Naomi Clauhs and Faith Sabatier finish with nine kills apiece as Ellie Benedict also added three aces. Julia Costa had a match-best 15 digs and Maddie Cox had 30 assists.

Ithaca College improves to 22-4 overall and have won seven-straight matches. They will close out the regular season on Saturday at the Wid Guisler Invitational where they will take on Ohio Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
