ASHLAND, Va. – The nationally ranked No. 19 Ithaca College football team saw its season come to an end at No. 8 Randolph-Macon as the Bombers lost, 46-0, in the NCAA Second Round at Day Field on November 25. Ithaca concludes the year with a 9-3 record.
Ithaca started the game at its own 25-yard line after a touchback on the opening kickoff. IC opened with a 9-yard run by
Jalen Leonard-Osbourne, followed by a first down reception by
Nicholas Lang.
With a new set of downs,
Colin Schumm completed another first down pass, but the drive stalled at the Randolph-Macon 49-yard line.
The Yellow Jackets began their first drive of the contest at their own 17-yard line after a punt by
Darren Brunner. Randolph-Macon took a 6-0 lead with 5:55 left in the first quarter on a 2-yard run by Nick Hale as RMC picked up 72 yards rushing on the drive. The PAT was blocked.
IC gave the ball right back to the Yellow Jackets as Schumm was intercepted two plays after the touchdown. RMC returned the interception down to the IC 15-yard line with just over five minutes left in the quarter. The lead grew to 12-0 as Hale scored his second touchdown on 4th-and-1 from the 6-yard line with 3:31 to go but the extra point was missed.
RMC punted early in the second quarter and pinned IC all the way back at its own 1-yard line. Two plays later, the Bombers were intercepted for the second time in the game at the IC 20-yard line. IC's defense held strong and kept RMC off the board as a 26-yard field goal attempt was missed.
Leonard-Osbourne then broke off a 21-yard run on the first snap following the miss. IC then moved up to the RMC 38 on a third down completion to
Sam Kline, but the Bombers punted down to the 5-yard line with 8:12 left in the half.
The Yellow Jackets picked up a crucial third at their own 7-yard line which propelled another scoring drive as the lead grew to 19-0 on a 53-yard touchdown pass with 4:24 on the clock.
The Bombers were picked off for the third time in the half and RMC put up three more points on a 21-yard field goal to make it 22-0 with 1:15 to go.
It was much of the same in the second half as the Yellow Jackets tacked on three more touchdowns and a field goal to account for the 46-0 final score. Ithaca was outgained, 565-103, in the loss.
Leonard-Osbourne had 29 yards rushing on seven carries, while Kline had two catches for 33 yards.
On defense,
Jake Connolly logged 13 total tackles, while
Ben Stola recorded 12 tackles (10 solo) and 2.0 tackles for loss.
Jonathan Koumas also reached double digit tackles with 10, while
Tamir Rowser added nine stops and
Derek Slywka notched eight tackles and
Jordan Sosa registered seven tackles.
