TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team was in action on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Troy, N.Y. to compete in a dual meet with RPI where they dropped a 194-106 result.
The Bombers came up with a second-place finish in the first event of the meet the 200-yard relay as
Katie Champagne,
Spencer Carroll,
Kathleen Papiernik and
Samantha Bender teamed up for a time of 1:50.88, which was just behind the Engineers A-relay squad who finished in 1:50.77. Another second-place result was achieved in the 1000-yard freestyle when
Emma Heinze touched the final with a time of 11:17.94. Heinze also finished third in the 500-yard freestyle as the Bombers top finisher recording a time of 5:28.71.
Katie Champagne earned another second-place finish as she produced a time of 1:01.04, teammate
Willa Sarcone was right behind her in third with a time of 1:02.54 in the 100-yard backstroke. First year
Spencer Carroll earned herself a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke recording a time of 11:11.00, where RPI's Chloe Jepson's finished first at 1:09.30.
The Bombers saw another second and third finish this time coming in the 200-yard butterfly with
Kathleen Papiernik (2:18.66) finishing second followed by
Lauren Brady. The fastest IC finisher in the 50-yard freestyle was
Samantha Bender who was third touching the wall in 25.19. Papiernik earned another second-place finish this time in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:35.40 and she was followed by senior
Jenna Molnar who was third at 2:35.93.
Willa Sarcone was the top IC finisher in the 200-yard backstroke with a second-place finish and time of 2:14.44.
Samantha Bender scored a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly behind a pair of RPI finishers with her time of 1:00.97.
Angela Merch beat her opponent from RPI in the 200-yard IM in a split second finish as Merch finished in 2:13.83 compared to Colleen Whittaker's time of 2:13.90.
In diving action, the first competition of the afternoon was the 1-meter where
Angela Burke bested the field with a 285.45. Teammates
Kailee Payne (283.13) and
Eliza Salus (280.13) were right behind finishing second and third, respectively.
Abby Marraccino was the top finisher on the 3-meter boards with a finals scored of 284.10. Once again it was all Ithaca behind her as
Angela Burke (279.68) was second and
Kailee Payne totaled a 275.25 for a third-place result.
