Ithaca Men’s Soccer Tie RIT, 1-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team secured a pivotal point in the Liberty League standings as the Bombers put together a 1-1 result on Tuesday afternoon against RIT. IC notched a first half goal, but the Tigers responded with the equalizer in the 62nd minute. Ithaca improves to 6-5-3 and 4-3-1 in the Liberty League as they sit in fourth place with 13 points ahead of both Clarkson (12) and RPI (12).

The Bombers came out firing on all cylinders and earned back-to-back corner kick opportunities within the opening minutes of the match. The first shot of the game came at the 5:18 mark when Nathan Waychoff saw his attempt saved by the RIT goalkeeper Jason Trapp. Ithaca continued pressing earning three more shots each of which required a save from Trapp.

Ithaca was rewarded for its hot start in the 29th minute as first year midfielder Colin Adams netted his first collegiate goal on an outstanding solo effort. He evaded a Tigers defender and slotted the ball past Jason Trapp to put the Bombers up 1-0. IC outshot the home team 9-3 in the first half and forced Trapp into four saves.

RIT saw the equalizer scored in the 62nd minute to tie the score at one goal apiece. Joe Moon flicked a pass into the Ithaca penalty area and Tate Pottle settled and fired it into the corner of the net. The Bombers nearly made it 2-1 in the 75th minute when Jared Krasnove ripped a shot on frame, but Jason Trapp made a diving stop to preserve the tie for his squad.

The Bombers outshot RIT 8-5, and had six corner kick opportunities compared to the Tigers one. Connor Tierney, Nathan Waychoff and Jared Krasnove each had two shot attempts on target.

Ithaca will look to solidify its postseason positioning on Saturday, October 28 when the team returns to Carp Wood Field to host RPI at 2 p.m.
