Women’s Basketball Runaway in the Fourth Quarter to Improve to 10-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team carried a 38-30 lead into the fourth quarter and were further able to pull away from RIT as they closed the game on a 35-7 run to claim the 67-33 win. The Bombers won their fourth-straight to improve to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the Liberty League.

Cara Volpe led all scorers netting 14 points on Tuesday on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. She also scored on a pair of free throws. The Bombers opened with a 4-0 lead as Volpe converted on the fast break laying it up after an assist from Natalie Smith. RIT tied it up at six points apiece before gaining a 9-6 lead after a Lila McGuiggin 3-pointer with 2:27 left in the opening quarter. The Bombers closed on a nice 6-0 run that saw three-straight layups from Volpe, Annabella Yorio and Natalie Smith.

The Bombers 12-9 lead was erased less than a minute into the quarter with the Tigers tying it at 14-14. A 9-2 run was then sparked by a pair of made free throws from Emily Dorn and was capped off by a Zoraida Icabaceta 3-pointer that made it 23-16. IC would carry a 32-25 lead into the halftime break as Icabalceta made the final basket of the half, cashing in on a layup.

The third quarter only featured a combined 11 points with tough defense all-around the court. The Bombers converted on 10-of-20 shooting from the field and made 3-of-7 shots from downtown during the final 10 minutes pulling away for the 67-33 victory.

Ithaca made the most of late RIT (4-8, 2-3 Liberty League) offensive miscues scoring 19 points off turnovers, including 11 in the fourth quarter. IC held the Tigers to 11-of-50 from the floor and 4-of-14 from downtown.

Next up, the Bombers will return to South Hill for a two-game homestand that begins on Friday. Ithaca will host St. Lawrence in Ben Light Gymnasium with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
