ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team returned to non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted St. John Fisher at Carp Wood Field. IC improves to 4-1-2, while St. John Fisher was handed their first loss of the season and now move to 2-1-3.
The offensive fireworks started early for the Bombers. After the SJF goalkeeper saved an initial free kick in the 3
rd minute off the right foot of
Kaitlyn Weis the IC offense continued to churn out solid possession in the Cardinals attacking third. They were finally rewarded with a golazo off the foot of
Rosie Bostian who took a turn after receiving a ball from 23-yards out and struck the ball into the upper righthand corner of the net. The Bombers goal was assisted by
Kaelyn Fernandez at the 9:59 mark of the first half.
Just minutes later, the Bombers doubled their lead on the counterattack as
Delaney Rutan earned a one-on-one with St. John Fisher's Avery Byrnes as Rutan was able to slide the ball into the bottom left corner to put her team up 2-0.
Ithaca would go on to make it 3-0 in the 42
nd minute as this time they scored on a corner kick opportunity.
Julia Cascone whipped in a ball that eluded the Cardinals defensive backline and then was headed into the back of the net by
Ally Stanton for her fourth goal of the season.
The Bombers carried a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. They continued to look dangerous in the opening minutes of the second half as
Delaney Rutan was sent on a nice through ball by
Rosie Bostian but Rutan's shot attempt was saved.
Once again on the counter,
Rosie Bostian sent Rutan in towards goal on the right side of the box but this time the junior forward saw her shot skip off the palms of the keeper and into the goal. The IC goal was scored in the 59
th minute.
IC made it 5-0 at the 81:51 mark on a nice individual effort by
Julia Cascone. She took three dribbles and evaded and beat the goalkeeper.
