No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse Downs St. John Fisher, 13-6, on Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. - The nationally ranked No. 10 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team honored its seniors in its final regular season home game with a 13-6 win over St. John Fisher on Friday afternoon, April 22 at Higgins Stadium. With the win, Ithaca improves to 12-2 on the season with two games remaining before the Liberty League Tournament.
 
Alexa Ritchie led the Bombers with three goals and one assist. Megan Motkowski, Maizy Veitch and Madison Boutureira each added two, and Veitch led the team in assists with three. Rachel Rosenberg also picked up five groundballs and caused three turnovers for Ithaca. Lexi Held had seven saves in goal.
 
Ritchie started the game quickly for the Bombers scoring a goal with 13:21 left on the clock in the first period. Both teams fought for possession in the next four minutes before the Cardinals scored from a free position shot with 8:57 minutes left to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Fisher won the next draw to maintain possession for the next two minutes before taking a lead just over the Bombers with 6:53 on the clock. Fisher won the next draw again, but only held possession briefly before turning the ball over to Ithaca. Ithaca made a run down the field, but was unable to score when the Bombers turned over the ball.
 
Fisher attempted to score again, but Caroline Wise forced the turnover to clear the ball into the Bombers' offense, setting up Boutureira up to score off an assist by Veitch. Ithaca tied the game back up 2-2 with just 3:59 left in the first before Fisher called a timeout.
 
Following the timeout, Fisher gave up possession throwing the ball out of bounds to give Ithaca a chance to make a run up field. After working to move the ball around the crease, Sydney Phillips scored an unassisted goal to take back the lead for Ithaca, 3-2, with 2:34 on the clock.
 
After winning the draw, Ithaca lost possession briefly before getting fouled by Fisher and regaining a ground ball picked up by Veitch. Phillips held the ball inside the crease before passing out to Motkowski, who fought through several Cardnials before sending a shot into the back of the net, putting the Bombers up 4-2 going into the second period.
 
Wise won the draw to give the Bombers a strong start to the second period. Boutureira attempted a shot just over 20 second into the period but was saved by the Fisher goalie. Fisher cleared the ball down field but was stopped by the Bombers. Ithaca ran down field and was fouled in the crease but was unable to score on the free position attempt due to an early start.
 
Fisher regained possession after the free position, but quickly turned the ball back over to the Bombers. With 10:47 left in the second period, Ritchie scored her second goal of the day assisted by Rosenberg.
 
Fisher won the draw after the Bombers pushed their lead to 5-2. The Cardinals maintained possession in the crease for nearly two minutes before Motkowski intercepted a pass and gave it to [goalie] who cleared the ball up field.
 
Ithaca was fouled in its offensive crease with 8 minutes on the clock. Lauren White took the shot for the Bombers, but was saved by the Cardinals goalie. Motkowski picked up the ground ball from the save and scored her second goal of the game.
 
Fisher took the draw after the Bombers' sixth goal of the game and ran the ball down field. The Cardinals were fouled in the crease, but Lexi Held saved the shot for Ithaca and cleared the ball up field. The Bombers were fouled in the crease to earn the free position shot but was bounced off the post. Veitch picked up the ground ball to give Wise a chance to score but shot high and Fisher picked up the ball. The Cardinals took the ball and tried to score but Held saved the shot yet again and cleared the ball out.
 
After moving up field, the Bombers maintained possession above the crease for nearly two minutes before Motkowski passed inside to Ritchie to score again. With 2:42 left in the second period, the Bombers led 7-2.
 
Despite winning the draw after their goal, the Bombers were unable to hold onto the ball and Fisher gained possession to score just 45 seconds after Ritchie's goal, making the score 7-3. The Bombers won the draw again after the Fisher goal and maintained possession in their offensive crease for a minute and a half before the Cardinals' goalie saved a shot by Ritchie and cleared the ball. However, the Bombers earned the ball back, but not in time to score again. Ithaca ended the first half leading 7-3.
 
Fisher won the draw to start the second half. After both teams fought for the ball inside the Cardinals' crease, the shot clock run out. Held cleared the ball up field and the Bombers maintained possession in the crease for over a minute before getting fouled and getting the free position attempt. After being fouled in the attempt and earning a second, Phillips scored on the second with just under 11 minutes left in the period, making the score 8-3.
 
Fisher earned the draw but was unable to score before the Bombers regained the ball. With 9:28 in the third period, Fisher gets a penalty card due to penalty just outside the crease. After a shot attempt from Ithaca, both teams had turnovers, but the Bombers came out on top with another goal from Boutureira. With 6:45 left in the third, Ithaca led 9-3.
 
After both teams made offensive runs in the next two-and-a-half minutes, Fisher scored to close its gap to 9-4. The Bombers won the draw after the goal and quickly attempted to score, but the shot was saved. Ithaca regained possession shortly after the Fisher goalie cleared the ball thanks to a turnover cause by Rosenberg. Both teams made offensive runs in the last three minutes of the period, but neither were able to score, leaving the Bombers the lead 9-4 going into the final period.
 
Fisher won the draw again to start the fourth period and made several attempts to score, but were unable to. Rosenberg was grabbed the ground ball and cleared it up field to give the Bombers their first chance to score in the final period, but Veitch's shot was saved by Fisher's goalie. After being fouled in the crease, Ithaca earned the free position attempt, but shot wide. The Bombers attempted shots two more times before the Cardinals regained possession and ran up field.
 
Both teams battled for possession before the Cardinals came up with the ball and scored on a free position shot with just over seven-and-a-half minutes left in the game and put the scoreboard at 9-5.
 
After winning the draw, the Bombers maintained possession in and around the crease for over a minute before Veitch scored her first goal of the game assisted by Lexi Kellish. Less than 20 seconds later, roles reversed and Kellish scored her first goal of the game from a Veitch assist to put the Bombers up 11-5.
 
Fisher earned the ball back in the draw and responded to the Bombers two goals with one of its own, putting the score at 11-6 with less than five minutes left to play.
 
The Bombers won the draw and Motkowski immediately runs the ball up field. After shooting wide, Ithaca earned the ball back and Maddie Hall scores on yet another assist by Veitch. Fisher called a timeout with 3:50 left on the clock and Ithaca up 12-6.
After maintaining possession in the crease for over a minute, Veitch scored her 50th goal of the season from an assist from Ritchie to put the Bombers up 13-6. Fisher won the draw but was unable to score when Ritchie picked up a ground ball to run up field before getting hit in the face in the crease to earn a free position shot, but is blocked, to end the game.
 
The Bombers won 13-6 over the Cardinals in its final home game of the season. Ithaca will travel to Hamilton College for a non-conference match up April 27 at 5 P.M.
