Softball Rolls to Seventh-Straight Win with Sweep over St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – On the heels of a quick turnaround, the Ithaca softball team rolled to a pair of wins at St. Lawrence on Sunday as offensively the Bombers were firing on all cylinders in both games. Ithaca picked up the 11-4 win before securing the 8-0 victory in five innings in the second game. The Bombers improved to 13-7 overall and 4-0 in the Liberty League while the Saints dropped to 12-7 and 2-2 in conference.

Ithaca 11, St. Lawrence 4 (F)
Ithaca got off to a quick start in the first inning scoring two runs to get things going for the Bombers. Graduate student Emma Kindblom put Ithaca on the board first leading off with a triple to right center and scored an unearned run after advancing home on a passed ball. Junior Allison Dell'Orto kept things going for Ithaca making her way around the bases by singling to third base and then scoring the second run of the inning after two walks and a passed ball. St. Lawrence got one run back in the bottom of the first when first year Stella Vangee tripled down the right field line, scoring Vivian Johnson who got on base with a walk.

The Bombers plated two more runs in the second inning to increase their lead to three when junior Kailey Collins tripled to right center, scoring Dell'Orto who got on base with a walk. Senior Julia Loffredo picked up an RBI as she singled to first base, scoring Collins for the fourth run in two innings.

The Bombers defense held off the Saints from scoring until the bottom of the third where a double from Lauryn Best scored two runs, making it a one run game heading into the fourth. Ithaca broke away in the top of the fourth and increased their lead to five, picking up four runs on four hits. Kindblom singled and Loffredo tripled, picking up their second hits of the day, while Sela Scheinman and Daniella Mulvey added doubles as well.

Ithaca went on to score an insureance run in the 6th inning, and two in the 7th inning to secure the win for the Bombers, as first year Melody Kappel got the win on the mound in the first game of the doubleheader.

Ithaca 8, St. Lawrence 0 (F-5)
Both teams were quiet in the first inning before Ithaca came out swinging to post all eight of their runs on the board in the top of the second. Senior Kira Flegenheimer broke things open for the Bombers homering to left field and scoring Scheinman, Mulvey and Tava Kasper who all got on base with a walk.

Belle De Oliveira continued the rally for Ithaca, doubling down the left field line and eventually scoring on a Kailey Collins double. Collins picked up two RBIs, scoring Kindblom as well after she reached on an error, making the score 6-0 Ithaca. Loffredo walked and a Scheinman single brought her and Collins home to top of the inning and concluded the scoring for the rest of the day.

The Bombers never looked back as they handedly beat the Saints 8-0 to complete the sweep. Anna Cornell picked up the win in game two.

Next up, the Bombers will host Alfred University on Kostrinsky Field for a twinbill on Tuesday, April 12. First pitch of the game one is slated for 3 p.m.
