SALISBURY, Md. – The Ithaca College softball team was back in action on Saturday and they were victorious over Muhlenberg University by a 9-0 score and dropped a close 3-0 matchup with No. 3 ranked Salisbury University. The split improved the Bombers overall record to 5-7.
Ithaca 9, Muhlenberg 0 (F-5)
The Bombers exploded for eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning to gain the 8-0 lead as they hit around their lineup and forced an early Mules pitching change.
Allison Dell'Orto homered to begin the bottom of the frame and with runners on first and second base,
Kailey Collins blasted a three-run homer over the left field fence.
Up 4-0, IC continued the inning with a
Tava Kasper single and back-to-back walks setup another big Dell'Orto at-bat. The junior third baseman cleared the based with a triple to the right center field gap to put the Bombers up 7-0. The final run of the inning was scored when
Yalina Ellis was patient at the plate and drew an RBI walk.
Ellis helped tally another insurance run in the bottom of the third when she hit a sacrifice fly that drove in
Emma Kindblom.
Anna Cornell pitched all five inning for Ithaca to improve to 4-2 this season. She held the Mules to just one hit and totaled 10 strikeouts.
Allison Dell'Orto finished a perfect 2-for-2 with her home run, triple, walk and four RBI.
No. 2 Salisbury 3, Ithaca 0 (F)
After managing six hits in the first game of the day, Lindsey Windsor was able to silence the IC bats all afternoon long as she only allowed two base runners giving up a walk and single. She improved to a perfect 8-0 for the No. 2 ranked Sea Gulls and owns an ERA of 1.11.
Salisbury plated the first run of the game on an Ellen Stockman sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second. They held the 1-0 lead until adding another run in the fifth as they played small ball and a Windsor single made it 2-0.
Maddison Lednum hit an RBI double off of
Riley Piromalli to score the final run of the game for the Sea Gulls.
Tava Kasper finished 1-for-2 for the Bombers.
Next up, Ithaca returns to action in their home-opener hosting York College (Pa,) at Kostrinsky Field on Saturday, March 26 for a doubleheader. Game times are slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
