ITHACA, N.Y. With the day split into three sessions that mimicked the Liberty League Championships, but condensed; swimming at 10 a.m., diving at 1 p.m. and then swimming again at 6 p.m., the Ithaca College men's swimming & diving program sit in second place after Day 2 of the 11
th Annual Bomber Invitational.
Ithaca has totaled 1,151.5 team points as the University of Rochester have a narrow lead going into the final day of competition at 1,171.5 points followed by Hamilton (718), Alfred University (516.5) and Hartwick College (469) who sit in fifth.
Swimming- Morning Session
- The Bombers took first-place in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Max Braithwaite, Matthew Mitros, James Collishaw and Ben Young teamed up to swim a finals time of 1:24.61. The foursome from Hamilton came in second with a time of 1:26.20.
- The top finisher for IC in the 400-yard IM was Matthew Stevens who put together a season-best time of 4:21.25.
- Ben Young took home first-place in the 100-yard butterfly earning key team points finishing ahead of swimmers from Hamilton, Hartwick and Susquehanna. The sophomore completed the race with a season-best time of 50.48.
- Matthew Johnston swam a 1:43.95 in the 200-yard freestyle, which earned him second-place. First year Ryan Cooke was just behind him in fourth with a recorded time of 1:44.44.
- The Bombers won the 400-yard medley relay by nearly a second with Matthew Johnston, Matthew Janssen, Ben Young and James Collishaw swimming a 3:25.27 in their heat. The University of Rochester's "A" relay squad finished second at 3:26.13.
Diving- Afternoon Session
- Competitors duked it out on the 3-meter boards during the afternoon session as there were 11 student-athletes putting together 11 dive totals. Connor Gleasman bested David Robinson (463.10) from the University of Rochester with a total score of 480.00. Kian Long finished in third place for the Bombers with a total of 438.35.
Swimming- Evening Session
- Santiago Ludwig bested his seeded time by over four seconds in the 200-yard butterfly and eared a second-place finish. Ludwig touched the final wall in 1:53.36.
- It was an incredible one-two for Ithaca in the 100-yard backstroke. James Collishaw took home first with a recorded time of 50.47 and right behind him was Matthew Johnston finishing second with a time of 52.24.
- It was another first-place finish for the Bombers relay squad, this time it came in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Ben Young, Ryan Cooke, Santiago Ludwig and Matthew Johnston finished ahead of the University of Rochester relay team with their time of 6:58.28.
The Bombers are back in action tomorrow for the final day of competition of the 11th Annual Bomber Invitational. Swimming is slated to resume at 9 a.m. with the longest event, the 1,650 freestyle. That event will be followed by the 100-yard IM, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 400-yard freestyle relay.
