Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Dominates Skidmore, 5-0, at Home

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey program earned its first-ever victory against Skidmore College in 10 all-time matchups on Sunday at Higgins Stadium as the Bombers completely dominated the Thoroughbreds, 5-0. Ithaca has now won eight straight games to improve its record to 12-2 on the season and 5-0 in the Liberty League.

IC also clinches a spot in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament with today's win. The Bombers outshot Skidmore this afternoon, 17-0, and held a 9-0 edge in penalty corners.

The Bombers controlled the pace of play in the first quarter as IC generated seven shots – all on goal – and earned four corners. A majority of IC's shots and corners occurred in the final minute of action, and on the fourth and final corner of the period, Jacqueline Mirabile gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead as she scored off her own rebound with 26 seconds left.

Ithaca kept Skidmore out of its offensive zone throughout the entire second quarter and took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a 10-0 edge in shots and 6-0 advantage in corners.

Skidmore's goalkeeper, Victoria Bodnar made six saves in the first half, while Lauren Ruggiero made a defensive save to deny a scoring chance from Elizabeth Pillow.

IC extended its lead to 2-0 midway through the second quarter as Morgan Mullen tallied her seventh goal of the season with 7:10 on the clock. Ithaca earned its scoring chance with another corner attempt. The initial shot was blocked, and Skidmore attempted to clear, but Mullen collected the ball and sent her shot past the sprawling goalkeeper.

The Bombers put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter with three more goals in a span of 3:11 to secure the 5-0 win.

The initial goal of the quarter came with 7:53 on the clock to make it a 3-0 game as Natalie Descalso scored on IC's ninth corner attempt. Mirabile inserted to Mullen at the top of the circle, who then passed back to Descalso on the left wing for a wide-open shot.

Just 2:06 later, Mullen squeaked a shot past the Skidmore keeper and Emma Garver made a lunging stab at the ball to push it over the goal line to make it a 4-0 difference.

Another 1:05 came off the clock and Descalso sent a long pass down the middle of the field to Mullen, who raced past the defense for a 1-v-1 chance and capitalized.

The Bombers head to the University of Rochester on October 21 for a 4 p.m. matchup and then return to South Hill for Senior Day on October 23 at 1 p.m. against William Smith.
