Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First Half Epifani Goal Powers IC Women’s Soccer Past Wilkes University

ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's soccer team outshot the visitors from Wilkes University by a 25-9 margin and used a first half goal to secure the 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bombers improved to 2-0 on the 2021 season and have yet to lose against the Colonials in their all-time series history.

After forcing three-straight saves from Hannah Landis, the Bombers were attacked on the counterattack and Wilkes nearly got on the board first, but Sarah Eliff's shot hit the post and a subsequent rebound shot was saved by Grace Hickey. The confidence grew for Ithaca as they began stringing dangerous passes together and were rewarded at the 34:57 mark when Alex Epifani scored her second goal of the season. A beautiful through ball was sent into the 18-yard box by Molly MacFarland and Epifani got onto the end of it slotting it past the goalkeepers outstretched arms.

The Bombers nearly added another goal right before the halftime break when Epifani whipped in a corner kick in the final seconds of the half, but a Kate Kohler shot attempt was saved once again by Hannah Landis. Ithaca were by far the more dangerous team in the second half as they outshot Wilkes by a 14-3 margin while forcing seven more saves by Landis.

Ithaca nearly added an insurance goal in the 66th minute as they had two corner kick opportunities and a headed effort on goal from Megan O'Reilly was sent wide right. Starting goalkeeper Claire Reader made two saves in the win and has yet to let to allow a goal in 156 minutes of action. Alex Epifani led all attackers with six shots on goal, which included three on target.

The women's soccer team return to action on Wednesday, September 8 when they travel to rivals SUNY Cortland. Game time for the road contest is slated for 4 p.m.
