ITHACA, NY- After just 10 minutes of continuous pressure by the Ithaca frontline, the Bombers were able to slot the ball past Marine Merchant Academy's goalkeeper Chase Miller as it trickled past him and over the line to put the Bombers up 1-0. Junior forward
Aidan Keenan was awarded his second goal of the season off the feed from first year midfielder,
Connor Tierney, who now has two assists on the season averaging a point per game.
Ithaca head coach,
Garret Eldridge commented on Tierney's offensive abilities saying he is quite impressed on how he's able to easily translate his skillset to the speed of the collegiate game.
"Connor is a really talented player. He is one that we show our depth with because he is a guy who only played 15 or 20 minutes in the first game for us and he comes in today, starts, and then assists the first goal. We are super happy with where he is but he's one piece of a lot of pieces that help us go," Eldridge said.
Coach Eldrige also mentioned he wanted his team to be "direct" from the start. The Bombers didn't disappoint with their ability to move the ball well and causing trouble for the Marine Merchant Academy's backline, who happened to look strong throughout the course of the game considering they went 69 minutes without letting the Bombers convert for a second goal.
Approaching the 79th minute of the contest,
Kyle Sicke managed to get his name on the scoresheet as he headed the ball into the top left corner off a great feed from a corner kick that was supplied from
Reefe Harrison, which put the Bombers up 2-0.
IC finished the game with 14 shots, seven of which hitting the target.
Josh Koenig maintained a clean sheet as he made four saves throughout the match. The Bombers continue their four game homestand tomorrow (September 5) as they will look to remain perfect while taking on Stevens Institute of Technology at 2 p.m. on the Carp Wood field at Ithaca College.
