ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team lifted its record to 5-2 on the season with a dominant, 2-0, win over the College at Brockport (4-3) on September 22 at Higgins Stadium. In the non-conference tilt, Ithaca outshot Brockport, 25-4, and did not allow a shot to the Golden Eagles after the first quarter. The Bombers also owned an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
IC immediately took initiative in the contest and sent the opening touch deep into Brockport territory. After a brief scramble, the Bombers maintained possession and fired off the first shot of the game just 27 seconds in. By the 1:09 mark, IC put its first attempt on target, a shot from
Samantha Horowitz, and then earned a corner three seconds later, which led to another shot attempt.
Ithaca would go on to take 11 first half shots to four by Brockport as the teams went into halftime at a 0-0 deadlock.
Alex Clough earned the start for IC in goal, and she stopped one shot in the first quarter en route to the win and first career shutout.
It was all IC in the second half, as the Bombers racked up 14 shots, with eight on frame.
The Bombers cracked the scoreboard at the 3:06 mark of the third quarter as
Morgan Mullen scored off an assist from Horowitz. IC then put two more shots on goal in the quarter, but both were saved.
In the fourth quarter, Mullen notched an insurance goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Mullen followed up a rebound from Horowitz to beat the Brockport goalkeeper.
