ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team hosted SUNY Geneseo at Higgins Stadium on September 18 for its Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer game and the Bombers came away with a 1-0 victory. The Bombers are now 4-2 on the season, while Geneseo drops to 3-3.
Both teams raised money ahead of today's contest for the GO 4 The GOAL Foundation and IC received more than $2,600 of donations.
In the first quarter, Ithaca outshot Geneseo, 5-1. One of those shots came from
Avery Moses with 5:45 left in the period, which resulted in the lone goal of the contest.
Natalie Descalso picked up the assist on the goal as she sent in a cross from right-to-left and Moses put home the feed on a quick finish.
Neither team registered a shot in the second quarter as the half wrapped up at 1-0.
The Bombers applied more pressure coming out of intermission with eight shots – four on goal – but Geneseo's goalkeeper, Sarah Quinlan, turned away all four shots on target. The Knights also produced numerous scoring chances in the third quarter with three shots and three corners, but
Macy Brandwein kept Geneseo off the scoreboard as she finished with her shutout of the season.
IC put two more shots on goal in the fourth quarter and both were saved as Quinlan finished the day with seven saves.
Ithaca outshot Geneseo, 16-5, in the game and owned an 11-5 edge in corners.
The Bombers remain at home next week for a showdown against Brockport on Wednesday, September 22 at 5 p.m.
