Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Thomas Edson, '21

No. 11 Women's Lacrosse Dominates Notre Dame of Maryland in NCAA Tournament

Lexington, Va. - The 11th-ranked Ithaca College Women's Lacrosse team rolled past previously undefeated Notre Dame of Maryland University, 23-1, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bombers improved to 13-1 on the season with the win and will play the winner of No. 2 Washington & Lee and Fairleigh Dickinson University - Florham.

How it Happened: Megan Motkowski got the scoring started on a free position just 15 seconds into the game and the Bombers didn't look back for the rest of the game, scoring the first 11 goals in just under 10 minutes of game time before the Gators were able to find the back of the net. That would be the last goal of the game for NDMU, as Ithaca scored the last six goals of the half to take a 17-1 lead into the break.

The Bombers took their foot off the gas in the second half, scoring just six goals in the half. The defense continued to shine in the second half, shutting out the Gators the entire way in the period as Kayla Howley and Lexi Held got action in net in relief of Mackenzie Schade.

Game Leaders: Jacqui Hallack again led the way with six goals and two assists for eight points on the day. Megan Motkowski netted four goals and also recorded two helpers for six points. Four Bombers had two goal performances, including first years Chloe Nordyke and Maizy Veitch. Six other Bombers recorded at least one point.

Alex Rabb and Alexa Ritchie led Ithaca with three caused turnovers each as part of a tenacious ride that held Notre Dame to a 2-17 performance on clears. Veitch and Rachel Rosenberg led Ithaca with four ground balls each. Notre Dame only mustered two shots on goal for the game, and Schade stopped one of them.

Up Next: The Bombers will await the winner of No. 2 Washington & Lee and Fairleigh Dickinson University - Florham in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. That game will be played on Saturday, May 15 in Lexington, Va. at Washington & Lee.
