CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball program extended its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader, shutout, sweep of St. Lawrence University, 3-0 and 11-0, on Saturday on the road. Ithaca is now 19-5 on the season and 15-3 in the Liberty League.
The Bombers allowed just two hits on the day as
Beth Fleming and
Riley Piromalli tossed one-hit shutouts in both ends of the twin bill.
GAME ONE: Ithaca 3, St. Lawrence 0
In the opener, Ithaca took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Julia Loffredo drove home
Allison Dell'Orto with a single to right field. Dell'Orto led off the contest with a single up the middle and then stole second and third.
IC then added two more runs in the third inning on a two-run triple – the final hit for IC in the game – off the bat
Haley Gaffney to left, scoring
Tava Kasper and Loffredo. Kasper led off with a walk, as did Loffredo with two outs.
Fleming improved to 8-4 on the season and allowed her only hit of the contest with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Fleming struck out 11 batters in the win and issued three walks.
GAME TWO: Ithaca 11, St. Lawrence 0 (5 innings)
In the nightcap, IC cracked the scoreboard in the top of the third on a groundout by Dell'Orto.
Gabby Laccona led off the inning with a double to right-center and moved up a base on a passed ball before coming home.
In the fourth inning, the Bombers built a 7-0 lead with six runs on six hits. IC loaded the bases on a singles from
Kailey Collins,
Daniella Mulvey and
Hudson Hassler. Laccona was then hit by a pitch to bring home the first run of the frame and then a wild pitch allowed Mulvey to score. After the second out was recorded, Gaffney drove home two with a base hit up the middle – bringing in Hassler and Laccona. The inning was capped off with a two-run base hit from Piromalli, plating Dell'Orto and
Kaitlin Maniscalco.
IC put the game away with four runs in the fifth to invoke the eight-run rule at 11-0. Loffredo drove home a pair, Hassler and Kasper, with a single to right and then Piromalli brough home two more, Loffredo and Laccona, with a base hit through the left side.
Piromalli vaults to 11-1 on the season with two strikeouts to one walk. She allowed the only hit in the top of the first with one out and faced one over the minimum the rest of the way.
Ithaca is back at home for a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. against St. Lawrence for Senior Day.
