No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Survives Track Meet at Union Behind Hallack's Nine Goals

Schenectady, N.Y. - The 8th-ranked Ithaca College Women's Lacrosse team escaped a track meet in Schenectady, N.Y. with a 24-22 win over Liberty League foe Union College. The teams entered the game ranked second and third in goals per game in the Liberty League, and showed just why in the highest-scoring game of the season for either side. Ithaca advanced to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in Liberty League play with the win.

How it Happened: The Bombers looked like they might pull away early, building a 10-4 lead with 16:50 to go in the game. Union shook off the shaky start and outscored Ithaca 7-3 the rest of the half to cut the halftime lead to 13-11.

The fireworks continued early in the second half and Ithaca twice built a four goal lead, including a 20-16 lead with 18:25 to go in the game. Union, like they did in the first half, responded in a big way by scoring six of the next seven goals to take a 22-21 lead on the No. 8 team in the country with 7:22 left. Senior Madison Boutureira tied the game again with just under six minutes left, then senior Jacqui Hallack scored the final two goals of the game while the defense and senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Schade clamped down to hold Union's potent offense scoreless over the last 7 minutes and change.

Game Leaders: Hallack's game-clinching goals were two of her career-high nine goals on the night, as the senior added to her already impressive 2021 campaign. Hallack was also huge at the draw control circle, winning 13 draws for the Bombers.

Boutureira and fellow senior Megan Motkowski also had strong performances on the offensive end. Boutureira found the back of the net four times and assisted on one goal, while Motkwoski netted a hat trick and three assists.

Defensively, Rachel Rosenberg recorded two caused turnovers and five draw controls, while junior Gillian Hanson scooped up three ground balls. Despite facing an onslaught of shots, Schade stood tall in net with 11 saves, including two huge saves after the Bombers regained the lead late in the game to seal the win.

Up Next: Ithaca will have a week off before hosting Liberty League foe Rochester on Friday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. The contest will be the first that the Bombers can play in front of their fellow students.
