No. 7 Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Rochester Behind Strong Defensive Showing

Ithaca, N.Y. - The 7th-ranked Ithaca College Women's Lacrosse Team posted another dominant performance in Liberty League play, this time in a 13-5 win against the University of Rochester. With the win, Ithaca improved to 8-0 on the season, and 6-0 in conference play.

How it Happened: The Bombers controlled the game from the start, jumping out to a 5-0 lead with 19:37 to play in the first half, led by two goals from senior Megan Motkowski. Rochester did not find the back of the net until 13:29 to go in the half, but the Bombers scored the last three goals of the opening frame to take an 8-1 lead into the break. 

Rochester opened the scoring in the second frame, but Ithaca again answered with three goals to build its biggest lead of the day at 11-2 with 13:37 to go. From there Rochester outscored Ithaca 3-2, but time ran out on any chances of a comeback for the Yellow Jackets. 

The Bombers did manage 31 shots on goal, but Rochester's senior goalkeeper Carlie Bendavid was stellar, making 18 saves on the day. 

Game Leaders: Five Bombers scored on the day, led by senior Jacqui Hallack's five goals and a hat trick from Motkowski. Senior Indira Varma had a team-high two assists and three other Bombers registered a helper. 

Senior Rachel Rosenberg led the defense with four caused turnovers, while senior Madison Boutureira earned Ithaca numerous second chances on offense by collecting ground balls off of saves. In goal, senior Mackenzie Schade posted four saves in one half of action and sophomore Kayla Howley stopped three shots in the second half. 

Up Next: Ithaca will travel to Rochester on Saturday, April 17 for the second game of the series against Rochester. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
