No. 7 Women's Lacrosse Beats Vassar, Earns Liberty League Regular Season Title

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The 7th-ranked Ithaca College Women's Lacrosse Team used a big second half to cruise past Vassar College, 21-13 and clinch the program's first Liberty League regular season championship. Ithaca improved to a program best 10-0 on the season (7-0 Liberty League) while Vassar fell to 2-3 (2-2 Liberty League).

How it Happened: The teams traded goals in the opening minutes before Vassar scored three straight to take a 5-2 lead and force a Bombers timeout. Ithaca's offense woke up after the timeout as the Bombers cut the lead to one. As the Bombers transitioned to offense, Vassar was called for a yellow card and senior Madison Boutureira scored to continue Ithaca's run. But the Bombers didn't stop there. Ithaca outscored Vassar 4-2 the rest of the half to head into the locker room with a 9-7 halftime lead.

The teams again traded goals early in the second half before the Bombers imposed their will on defense and really got the offense humming. Ithaca doubled up Vassar in the second half, 12-6, behind strong goalkeeping from senior Mackenzie Schade and a tenacious defense.

Game Leaders: Senior Jacqui Hallack continued her stellar season, scoring seven goals to lead the team. Senior Megan Motkowski scored four goals, while fellow seniors Boutureira and Alexa Ritchie each netted a hat trick. Boutureira also notched three assists for six points on the day.

Senior Rachel Rosenberg again caused chaos for the Bombers defense, forcing three turnovers on the day. Rosenberg and senior Molly Nodiff each collected three ground balls. Schade was steady in goal, stopping 10 shots over the course of the game.

Up Next: Ithaca will return home for the second game of the series against Vassar tomorrow, Saturday, April 24. The Bombers will celebrate their decorated senior class in the final regular season game of the season. Opening draw is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
