ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College baseball team split a home Liberty League doubleheader with Bard College on Sunday, April 18 at Freeman Field, 5–3 and 14-5. Sunday's doubleheader was the first-ever matchup between Ithaca and Bard, as the Bombers took the opener and Bard secured the win in the nightcap.

Game 1: ITHACA 5, BARD 3

Game one started with a single from Ithaca's
Jack Lynch to put a runner on base early.
Garrett Callaghan walked, moving Lynch into scoring position. Lynch would cross the plate thanks to a wild pitch, earning his team's first run of the contest to end the inning.

Matt Chase struck out two batters in the second innings but gave up two runs to the Raptors. A smart play in the infield to catch Bard on an attempted steal concluded the inning, Ithaca trailing Bard by one run heading into the third.

The Bombers' Lynch placed a triple to the left-center field fence for his second hit of the game, and Callaghan later found himself in a pickle between first and second base. Callaghan dove back to first to keep himself on the diamond while Lynch crossed the plate for to tie it up 2–2.

Chase had two strikeouts in the fourth for Ithaca and helped his team hold off Bard, but the Bombers were not able to capitalize in the next at-bat. Chase did not factor into the decision and stuck out six batters over 5.1 innings of work.

Lynch made a great play at short to start the fifth, snagging a hard-hit ball in the infield and making the throw to first. Chase picked off a runner at first base and earned a strikeout to finish the top of the inning. Bard then took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth.

Offensive action resumed for Ithaca in the sixth inning with
Matt Fabian and
Buzz Shirley making their way on base.
Gil Merod had a perfectly placed bunt on the third base side to load the bases. Fabian later scored off a hit from
Colin Shashaty.
Louis Fabbo sent a single flying to center field with Merod and Shirley crossing the plate to put the Bombers ahead at 5–3. That score would stand to end the game and give the bombers the win.

Garrett Bell picked up his second win of the season in 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Game 2: BARD 14, ITHACA 5

A change of pace came for the Bombers in the nightcap with Ithaca giving up 12 unanswered runs over the first three innings to put IC at a major deficit early on.

The Bombers put one run across the plate in the fifth to get on the scoreboard and garnered some offensive momentum two innings later.
Â
Four Bombers would score in the seventh to cut the deficit to seven runs at 12-5, recording two walks and two hit batters. Five wild pitches helped moved runners around the bases, with only one hit in the at-bat.

Bard put up two more runs in the contest with one run scoring in both the eighth and ninth innings. Both teams rotated through their bullpens with Ithaca cycling through six pitchers and Bard used seven. The final score tallied 14–5 in favor of Bard.

Matteo Ragusa took the loss in an inning pitched. IC struggled on the mound as the Bombers issued 11 walks and four hit batters.

The Bombers will play two games at Bard on Wednesday, April 21 in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
