ROCHESTER, N.Y- The Ithaca College softball team recorded a doubleheader split against the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon, as the club fell to the Yellowjackets 7-3 in game one and picked up a 7-4 victory in game two. The split improves the Bombers' record to 11-3 on the season, as their Liberty League record improves to 7-1. IC will return to action on Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m., as the club will once again take on the University of Rochester Yellowjackets, at Kostrinsky Field.Â

GAME ONE: ROCHESTER 7, ITHACA 3

The Bombers found themselves facing an early deficit in game one, as the Yellowjackets put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Rochester opened up the scoring with a two-run home run to left field, causing the Bombers to trail 2-0 after two innings of play.Â

The Yellowjackets tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a single to center field. The knock extended Rochester's lead to 3-0 as the squads entered the fifth inning.

The Bombers broke their offensive silence in the top of the fifth, as the squad plated two runs to trim their deficit to 3-2 against Rochester. Junior
Daniella Mulvey drove in the club's first run of the afternoon with an RBI double to right-center field, bringing home sophomore
Kailey Collins. This was followed by sophomore
Allison Dell'Orto driving home Mulvey with a single to right field.Â

The Yellowjackets quickly answered this scoring in the bottom half of the frame, with a two-run home run to left-center field. The club added another run later in the inning with a single to left-center field. Ithaca trailed Rochester 6-2 after five innings of play.Â

Senior
Haley White got one of these runs back the following frame, as she launched a home run to center field. The blast was the designated player's third home run of the season and cut the Yellowjackets' lead to 6-3 over the Bombers in the top of the sixth inning.Â

Rochester continued their offensive clinic in the bottom half of the inning, as they extended their lead to 7-3 with a double to left-center field. This would hold as the final score, as the Bombers would fail to cross the plate in the final inning of play. Senior hurler
Beth Fleming logged just her second loss of the season, dropping her record to 5-2 on the campaign.Â

GAME TWO: ITHACA 7, ROCHESTER 4

The Yellowjackets' bats picked up right where they left off early in game two, as they plated a run by scoring on an error, resulting from a fly ball to left field. This provided Rochester with a 1-0 lead over Ithaca, after an inning of play.Â

The Bombers and Yellowjackets then traded zeros until the top of the fifth inning, when Ithaca erupted for four runs in the frame. Graduate student
Frankie-Ann McCauley opened the scoring by driving home Collins with a double to left field. Dell'Orto followed this by lining a two-run double to right-center field, scoring senior
Kaitlin Maniscalco and Mulvey. Dell'Orto then extended the Bombers' lead to 4-1 over the Yellowjackets, as she scored on a throwing error by the Rochester catcher.Â

IC tacked on another run in the sixth inning, as graduate student
Haley Gaffney left the yard with a home run to right-center field. The blast provided the first baseman with her third home run of the season, and extended Ithaca's lead to 5-1 over Rochester.Â

The Yellowjackets' bats came alive in the bottom half of the frame, as they trimmed the Bombers lead to 5-4 with a three-run home run to left field.Â

Ithaca tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, to take a 7-4 lead over Rochester. Dell'Orto drove home Laccona with a double to left-center field. Dell'Orto later came around to score on a single to left field by junior
Julia Loffredo.

This would hold as the final score, as sophomore hurler
Riley Piromalli secured the victory in the bottom half of the frame. The right-hander recorded a solid complete-game outing in the circle for the Bombers, giving the club length after pitching two innings in game one of the twin bill. She struck out four batters, while allowing just three earned runs in seven innings of work. Piromalli picked up her sixth win of the year in the contest, improving her record to 6-1 on the campaign.
