Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Thomas Edson, '21

No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Defeats No. 13 Brockport In Defensive Battle

Ithaca, N.Y. - The 12th-ranked Ithaca College Women's Lacrosse team earned its second victory over a ranked opponent in as many tries, defeating No. 13 Brockport 9-7 on Saturday, March 20 at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers dominated defensively as the Golden Eagles turned the ball over 31 times and converted only 15 out of 33 clears.

How it Happened: Ithaca never trailed in the game as senior Madison Boutereira got the Bombers on the board just 58 seconds into the game. Despite never trailing, the game was never comfortable for the Bombers as they struggled to get the ball past Brockport goalkeeper Morgan Elmer, who stopped 16 shots.

Ithaca built multi-goal leads twice in the first half, but Brockport answered right back. The Bombers led 5-4 at halftime, and Brockport tied it at 5 with 22:20 left in the second half. The Bombers again went on a run to go up 8-5, led by two goals from senior Indira Varma, but Brockport again had an answer to cut the lead to 8-7 with 10:16 to go in the game.

The teams traded turnovers and missed opportunities before senior Megan Motkowski put the Bombers back up two goals on what would be the final goal of the game with 4:46 to go.

Game Leaders: Boutereira, Varma, and seniors Alexa Ritchie and Jacqui Hallack each had two goals to go with Motkowski's one goal for the Bombers.

Seniors Rachel Rosenberg and Molly Nodiff each caused three turnovers to lead the defensive effort for Ithaca. Rosenberg also picked up five ground balls. Senior Mackenzie Schade stopped six shots on the day.

Next Up: Ithaca will travel to Rochester for their first Liberty League contest of the season against RIT on Friday, March 25. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
