ITHACA, N.Y. – Competing against nine other institutions, the Ithaca College men's swimming & diving program co-hosted the first day of 10th annual Bomber Invitational in the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium on Friday. The Bombers welcomed Hartwick College, Alfred University, Le Moyne College, SUNY Geneseo, Shippensburg University, University of Rochester, Nazareth College, Vassar College and Saint Rose College to town as competition was fierce all evening long. SUNY Geneseo took the lead after the schools competed in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 3-meter diving and the 200-yard medley relay. Ithaca totaled 340 team points and remain in striking distance of the Knights in second and in third-place is the University of Rochester with 298 points.
A highlight of the evening was an outstanding swim and finish from sophomore
Jack Wadsworth. In the 200-yard IM, he bested the competition for a program-best an NCAA B-cut qualifying time of 1:50.21. He closed out the race in exciting fashion beating Jack Cimorelli of SUNY Geneseo by over a second (1:51.50).
In diving action, junior
Ethan Godfrey just bested out Jacob Calus of SUNY Geneseo for a first-place finish and finals score of 509.15 on the three-meter board. That easily surpassed the NCAA Division III qualifying standard in 11 dives of 440.
First-year
Matthew Johnston was the top-finisher for the Bombers in the 500-yard freestyle finishing the event seventh with a recorded time of 4:48.03.
It was a one-two finish as
Stanley Zaneski and
James Collishaw raced to team-best finishes in their respective heats of the 50-yard freestyle. Collishaw produced the best time of the meet with a 20.92 and
Stanley Zaneski finished second at 20.93.
The foursome of
Jack Wadsworth,
Ethan Mossi,
Santiago Ludwig and
James Collishaw teamed up for the second-place finish in the 200-yard medley. The Bombers recorded a time of 1:33.13 behind SUNY Geneseo who teamed for a finals time of 1:31.89.
The Bombers are back in action tomorrow with day two of the Bomber Invitational, starting at 10 a.m. with the 200 freestyle relay. The 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay will wrap up the morning session. Diving then begins at 1 p.m. with the 1-meter before breaking for the afternoon.
The evening sessions is slated to begin at 6 p.m. with the 200-yard butterfly, followed by the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke and 800-yard freestyle relay.
