ITHACA, N.Y. – Rising sophomore
Kalena Yearwood of the Ithaca College women's track & field program was recently elected as student trustee by the Ithaca Board of Trustees during their May meetings last week.
During her first year with the track & field program, Yearwood competed in nine meets within the throwing events. She posted a total of 11 top-10 finishes over the course of the season, including a second place showing in the weight throw at the Conference Challenge Cup Invite in Rochester on January 25.
Yearwood's mark of 15.37 meters (50 feet, 5.25 inches) in that event set a new personal best for the Ithaca, N.Y., native. At the Liberty League Indoor Championships on February 28-29, Yearwood secured her best mark in the shot put at 10.89 meters (35' 8.75).

Politics major and MLK Scholar
Kalena Yearwood, a rising sophomore, will serve for the next two years as the student trustee. She is currently the civic engagement and outreach liaison for IC Ujima Black Student Union, helping to establish connections between Ithaca College students and the greater Ithaca community.
A graduate of Ithaca High School and TST BOCES Career and Tech Center, Yearwood already has many years of experience participating in and leading a variety of community endeavors. She has previously served as an Achievement Coach with the Village at Ithaca tutoring students, interned with My Brother's Keeper Ithaca, served as a junior counselor with the Community Unity Music Education Program, and has been involved in other local organizations and initiatives within the Ithaca community. A licensed cosmetologist, Yearwood is also a thrower on the college's women's track and field team.
The board recognized the contributions made by Julie Dorsey '01, MS '03; Sybil Conrad; and Yetunde Smalls '21 during their term serving as faculty, staff and student trustee, respectively.
