Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Dominates at RPI

TROY, N.Y. – Three players reached double figures as the Ithaca College women's basketball team defeated RPI, 66-46, on Sunday afternoon. The Bombers are now 16-5 overall with a 12-2 mark in Liberty League play.

Junior Grace Cannon led Ithaca with 24 points, a season-high 11 rebounds and two blocks. Senior KellyAnne O'Reilly netted 16 points, which included four 3-pointers and dished out four assists while senior Cassidy O'Malley finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

Although much of the first half was close, the Bombers slowly started to create distance in the closing minutes of the second quarter and in the second half.

The teams were tied twice throughout the first quarter. RPI took a 6-3 lead on a Sam Krumhaar layup less than two minutes in, but Cannon quickly tied things up at six with a shot from distance.

After exchanging baskets, the Engineers took a three-point, 11-8, lead midway through the quarter. Cannon, however, tied things up once again with a jumper and the back end of a pair of free throws. Ithaca held a slight 13-12 advantage at the close of the first quarter.

RPI opened up the second quarter with a layup from Courtney Lewis and a 3-pointer from Krumbhaar to take a 17-13 advantage at 8:35.

Cannon followed that up with a 3-pointer and a jumper to put the Bombers ahead once again. Ithaca took the lead for good on a Cannon layup with 5:52 on the clock.

In the final 1:34 of the half, IC went on to build up a seven-point lead on two buckets from O'Malley and a jumper from Yawman. The Bombers went into the half with a 30-23 lead over the Engineers.

Ithaca came out of the break to outscore RPI 7-2 in the opening two minutes to take a 38-25 lead.

O'Malley started things off with a jumper and Cannon followed up with another bucket. Canon then converted on an and-one play to give the Bombers the 12-point lead.

The Engineers' Celia Tomlinson and Ines Ortea cut the Bombers' lead down to eight points, 39-31, but that is the closest RPI would come through the remainder of the game.

The Bombers continued to dominate the third quarter, outscoring the Engineers, 25-14, leading to an eventual 55-37 lead at the buzzer. In the final 5:28 of the quarter, IC went on a 16-6 run, which included 12 points from O'Reilly.

In the final 10 minutes of play, Ithaca maintained a double-digit lead, building it up to as many as 24 points.

First-year Emily Dorn gave the Bombers the 24-point edge midway through the quarter, hitting a layup and converting the ensuing free throw after being fouled.

Four points from the Engineers closed out the game en route to IC's 66-46 win.

The Bombers went 25-for-65 (38.5 percent) from the field and shot 40 percent (6-for-15) from 3-point range. IC also had the slight edge on the boards, outrebounding RPI 45-43.

IC's defense held RPI to just 24 percent from the field (14-for-58) and 25 percent from 3-point range (2-for-8).

The Bombers return home next weekend to begin a four-game homestand to close out the regular-season. On Friday evening, IC hosts Clarkson at 5:30 p.m. before taking on St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2 p.m.
