ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team opened up its spring match schedule on Saturday morning when it made the short trip up to Rochester, New York, for a non-league clash against the University of Rochester. Although IC battled hard against the talented regional power, the Bombers were only able to scratch away to team points on the day in a 7-2 defeat. The loss drops IC's record to 0-1 on the year.

Ithaca competed well during the doubles session, but unfortunately was unable to secure a result that would keep IC within striking distance heading into the singles match-ups. The closest battle came at third-doubles with the tandem of first-year
Sarah Sposito and junior
Sara Steinberg battling well in an 8-5 defeat to Bianca Dyer and Sravya Gudipudi. IC's most experienced tandem of senior
Brianna Ruback and sophomore
Alexandra Dyszewski was also competitive in an 8-4 defeat to Rola Abouzeina and Cami Ruiz Vega. IC's rookie tandem of
Rebecca Andrews and
Zoe Davis struggled to get things going in the second slot in an 8-1 loss to Abbey Reinhart and Emily Tompkins.
The highlight of the day came during the singles session, as the Bombers swept both of the Top-2 lineup positions. Dyszewski was impressive in a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win over Cami Ruiz Vega, which likely goes down as her best individual victory since joining the program last season. Ruback also was triumphant in a thrilling back-and-forth three-set battle with Abouzeina in the first-singles slot. Ruback took the first and third sets, both in competitive breakers.
Unfortunately, Rochester's lineup depth was able to win out on the day, as the Yelllowjackets swept the bottom four singles match-ups. The third slot was the most competitive, as IC's Andrews was able to win six games against Abbey Reinhart in a 6-2-6-4 defeat. The Bombers did not come within a break in any of the other matchups on the day.
Ithaca returns to the court next weekend when it jumps into Liberty League play with a pivotal early-season clash against RIT on Saturday, February 29. The match was moved earlier this year to Cornell's Reis Tennis Center with the A&E Center's Glazer Arena serving as the host site for the 2020 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships for wrestling. Start time for the match with the Tigers is shortly after 12:00 p.m.
