AURORA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team got back on the winning track Tuesday evening at Wells College as the Bombers came away with an 89-59 non-conference victory. Ithaca is now 12-4 on the season, while Wells falls to 2-14 overall.
The Bombers jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the opening two minutes on a 3-pointer from sophomore
Zach Warech and a layup from classmate
Clay Medling, and Ithaca never looked back as IC cruised to the wire-to-wire 30-point victory.
By the 14:55 mark of the first half, Ithaca mounted a 10-point lead, 13-3, on a 3-pointer from junior
Bryan Karl and then reached a 20-point spread, 29-9, on a bucket from senior
Jake Mitchell with just over eight minutes left in the half.
As the clock wound down in the first period, Ithaca held a 42-13 advantage heading into halftime. The 13 points allowed in the first half are the fewest an IC team has surrendered since 2007 when the Bombers held Elmira to 12 points (a 64-36 win) in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half of play, Wells opened with a 19-10 run over an eight-minute stretch to pull to within a 20-point difference, 52-32, but the Bombers responded with their own 20-10 spurt over the next four minutes to establish a 72-42 advantage with exactly eight minutes to go.
The Bombers would go on to lead by as many as 33 points a minute later, 77-44, and then went on to close out the contest.
Sophomore
Skylar Sinon paced the Bombers with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and six rebounds.
Fellow sophomore
Zach Warech had an efficient 15-point night, making 5-of-6 3-pointers in the win, to go along with six assists and four rebounds.
Mitchell also reached double figures with 14 points, while Karl added nine points and five boards. Sophomore
Tommy Carver and freshman
Liam Spellman each chipped in seven points, while junior
Lucas Joshi and sophomore
George Sikoryak III tallied five points apiece.
The Bombers will return to Liberty League action this weekend when they travel to Hobart College on Friday and Skidmore College on Saturday.
