Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Epifani, O'Reilly Net Two Goals Apiece to Lead Women's Soccer Past Mount St. Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Junior Alex Epifani and sophomore Megan O'Reilly each scored two goals on Saturday afternoon to lead the Ithaca College women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Mount St. Mary. The Bombers are now 2-1-1 on the season.

Ithaca got on the board first, 31:43 into the competition, as O'Reilly netted a pass from Epifani to put IC up 1-0 heading into the halftime break. It was O'Reilly's first goal of the season.

The Knights pushed to get the equalizer in the first half, testing senior Sara Jakobsze in goal several times.

Less than two minutes after O'Reilly's goal, Jakobsze made her first save of the game on a Lauren Engel shot. She then stopped a shot from Alexa Franceschi 30 seconds later, before saving another Franceschi attempt in the 38th minute.

Following the break, the Bombers kicked their offense into high gear to score three more goals in the second half.

Epifani started things off with a goal in the 52nd minute, which pushed IC's lead to 2-0 over the Knights.

Jakobsze made two more saves prior to the Knights adding a goal. Liz Ellsworth put both attempts on frame, but Jakobsze was there to make the play. She picked up the win after making five saves on the day.

Mount St. Mary, however, would cut the lead in half in the 84th minute, as Chrissy Cannella scored on a free kick just outside the box.

With just over four minutes left on the clock, Epifani notched her second goal of the game and of the season, giving Ithaca a 3-1 advantage.

O'Reilly then added more insurance for Ithaca, scoring her second goal of the game with just 2:06 left in the competition.

Ithaca and the Knights were nearly even, statistically, despite the three-goal differential. The Bombers tallied 13 shots, seven of which were on goal, while Mount St. Mary recorded 11 shots and six on goal. Mount St. Mary added six corner kicks compared to the Bombers' one.

Ithaca is back in action on Wednesday, September 11 for the 2019 home opener against Cortland. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. on Carp Wood Field.
