Three-Run Ninth Inning Lifts Baseball Past Elmira, 4-1

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team concluded its three-game series with Elmira College on Sunday at Dunn Field and the Bombers came away with the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the finale. Ithaca is now 15-5 overall and 9-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Elmira drops to 3-19 and 1-10 in the Empire 8.

Runs came at a premium on Sunday as graduate student Tyler Hill and Elmira's Taber Carter carried shutouts into the seventh inning.

The Bombers got on the board first as senior Matt Carey scored on a wild pitch with one out in the seventh inning. Carey led off the frame with a single to left field and moved over to third on a base hit from junior Andrew Wollner.

Elmira knotted things up at 1-1 in the bottom half of the seventh on a two-out base hit through the right side of the infield.

IC responded in the top of the ninth with three runs on three hits to build a 4-1 edge. After the first two outs of the inning were recorded, senior Webb Little reached on a hit by pitch to continue the Bombers' at bat. Senior Adam Gallagher then singled and fellow senior Sam Little followed with a double to left-center to plate W. Little. Senior Cam Fuoti then drove in Gallagher and S. Little to cap off the rally.

In the bottom of the ninth, Hill came back out to the mound and polished off his complete game with a 1-2-3 inning. Hill allowed one run on six hits with five strikeouts for his fourth win of the season and needed 101 pitches to complete the gem.

Fuoti was 3-for-5 on the afternoon with a double, while S. Little, Carey, Wollner and junior Buzz Shirley all notched two hits in the win.

The Bombers are back at home on Tuesday, April 9 for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup against Cortland.
