Ithaca, N.Y. - The No. 13 Ithaca College softball team swept both games in the team's doubleheader against Clarkson University on April 7. The Bombers won the first game 7-0 and won the second game 1-0.

With the wins, Ithaca is 15-5-1 on the season and remains undefeated within the Liberty League Conference.

Scoring got started for the Bombers early in the contest when senior
Vanessa Brown led off the inning with a double to left center. Senior
Alex Wright then grounded out which advanced Brown to third. Junior
Abby Shields singled to left center which led Brown to cross home plate to make the score 1-0 at the end of the first inning.

The game remained scoreless throughout the next two innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Ithaca struck again after a sacrifice bunt by Shields which scored senior
Nikkey Skuraton. Skuraton got on base earlier in the inning with a bunt of her own and later advanced to third when Wright singled up the middle. At the end of the fourth, Ithaca led 2-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ithaca's offense exploded for five runs. It all got started when Wright walked, which was followed up by a Shields double to left center. Senior
Hannah Anderson was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to load the bases. Sophomore
Gabby Laccona singled to left center to score Wright which extended the lead to 3-0.

In the next at-bat, sophomore Hailey White hit a grand slam to left center to clear the bases and make the Ithaca lead 7-0. It was White's second home run of her collegiate career.

Shields paved the way for Ithaca's offense by finishing 3-for-3 with two RBI. White also finished 1-for-3 with four RBI.

Senior
Haley Congdon picked up the win for Ithaca in the circle by pitching five complete innings. She finished with one strikeout while only allowing six hits. Junior
Emily Holden pitched the last two innings for the Bombers and threw three strikeouts while only allowing four hits.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Brown hit a solo home run to left center. It was Brown's fourth home run of the season and it gave Ithaca a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning, Clarkson had runners on first and second with one out. Clarkson sophomore Rylee LeBourveau hit a hard grounder to shortstop and Anderson could only get the runner advancing to second. With two outs and runners on first and third, Olivia Zoeller tried to get Clarkson on the board, but sophomore Beth Flemming struck her out to secure the win for the Bombers.

Flemming pitched the entire game for Ithaca and finished with nine strikeouts while only allowing three hits. The win puts her at 6-2-1 on the season.

Leading the way for the Bombers offensively was Brown who had the only RBI of the game. Skuraton and Laccona each finished with one hit as well.

Ithaca will travel next to play Utica College in a non-conference doubleheader. The games will be played at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 9 in Utica, New York.
