ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College football program ended its 2019 season with a 20-17 loss to Washington & Jefferson College in the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl at Butterfield Stadium on Saturday. With the loss, Ithaca finishes the season with an 8-3 record.
The Bombers led, 17-0, with 8:51 remaining in the third quarter, but W&J mounted the three-score comeback with three touchdowns in less than 10 minutes to come away with the win. The Presidents scored their first touchdown with 1:42 left in the third quarter on a 5-play, 91-yard drive, which was capped off on a 9-yard catch by Josh Burns from Jacob Adams. The extra point was missed and Ithaca's lead was 17-6.
Just over five minutes into the fourth quarter, Jordan Halford made a leaping grab in the back of the end zone and was able to get one foot down for a 26-yard score. W&J successfully converted the 2-point conversion to make the score 17-14.
Exactly three minutes later, senior
Joe Germinerio was intercepted at midfield and W&J's Delonta Nunnally returned it for a 50-yard pick-six to put the Presidents up, 20-17.
W&J had an opportunity to put the game away with just over two minutes left in the game, but the IC defense stuffed the Presidents on fourth-and-short at the IC 20-yard line. Ithaca quickly moved the ball inside the W&J 10-yard line on six plays but stalled from there. On fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line, Germinerio threw a lateral pass to senior
Kyle Berna, who was pushed out-of-bounds at the 2-yard line to end the Bombers' chance to win the game.
W&J ended the game in victory formation.
Ithaca's top two wide receivers, senior
Will Gladney and junior
Andrew Vito, became the first duo in program history to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season. Gladney finished the game with 10 catches for 170 yards and a touchdown, while Vito had nine catches for 79 yards.
Gladney wraps up the season with 85 receptions for 1,161 yards and 16 touchdowns – the yards and touchdowns are single-season records. Vito set a school record with 88 catches for 1,074 yards and nine touchdowns.
Germinerio completed Saturday's game with 260 yards passing on 23-of-33, while senior
