Eight Different Players Score as Women's Soccer Tops Elmira

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team kept its winning streak alive on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Elmira.

With the win, the Bombers improve to 4-0 on the season and the third shutout in a row.

Eight different players scored for Ithaca, with first-year Stella Campodonico leading with two goals. Of those eight, five of them scored their first career goals.

The Bombers wasted no time getting on the board. Sophomore Alex Epifani struck first, scoring on an Ally Christman cross in the third minute of play.

Ithaca continued to dominate offensively and scored again in the 10th minute. Junior Gabriella Mihale's initial shot was blocked on the line by an Elmira defender, but she corralled the rebound and sent the ball into the back of the net, giving IC a 2-0 lead. The goal was the first of Mihale's career at Ithaca.

The Bombers third goal of the first half was scored by junior Jenny Lidwin in the 24th minute, marking the first goal of her career.

In the 35th minute, Campodonico scored her first of two goals on the day and her first career goal as a Bomber. She took a cross from junior Jordyn Haynes and chipped it into the left side of the goal to push IC's lead to 4-0.

Ithaca had an abundance of scoring opportunities in the first half, including a penalty kick with just 18 seconds left, but Reid Garner's attempt sailed wide of the goal.

The Bombers immediately took control again to open the second half of the game, scoring less than 10 minutes it.

Sophomore Maddie Amidon gave the Bombers a 5-0 edge when she scored off a Riley Boag corner kick, which is her third career goal at IC.

Less than six minutes later, Ithaca scored its first of back-to-back goals. In the 61st minute, Erin Loonie scored her first career goal to give the Bombers a 6-0 advantage.

The following minute, Elmira committed a foul in the box to force an Ithaca penalty kick. Garner was once again tasked with taking it and it was good thing time, pushing Ithaca's lead to 7-0.

In the 71st minute of play, the Bombers once again raised the number on the scoreboard with another goal. First-year Hannah Leask scored her first career goal on an assist from Megan Buttinger, giving IC an 8-0 edge.

The ninth and final goal was scored by Campodonico in the 80th minute of play on a pass from McKensie Galusha.

Ithaca registered 42 shots on the day, with 28 of them on goal. In addition to their offensive dominance, the Bombers' defense also played a big part in the win, holding Elmira to no shots on the day.

Christman recorded seven shots on the day, while Mihale notched five shots and both Amidon and Loonie each had four.

In goal, all four IC goalies saw time, with starting goalie Sara Jakobsze earning her fourth win of the year. On Elmira's end, starting goalie Meghan Ray recorded 12 saves while Cassidy Buchman stopped two shots.

The Bombers are back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they make the short trip to Cortland for a 4 p.m. match. IC will then come back to Carp Wood Field on Saturday, September 15 against Nazareth as part of a double-header with the men's team.
