TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team dropped the first two games of its Liberty League schedule on Saturday to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Bombers fell to 2017 Liberty League champions, 6-1, in the first game of the day before losing, 5-0, in game two.

Game 1 | RPI 6, IC 1

RPI wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring its first run in the top of the first inning. Christine White reached first on an error before scoring on an Allie Hunt triple to right field.

The Engineers put four more runs on the board in the top of the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0 over IC.

Steph Cavallaro reached on a fielding error before heading to third on a throwing error during a Rebecca Kienz at-bat. Cavallaro scored on a Veronica DeStefano single to third while Kienz scored on a throwing error to take a 3-0 lead.

DeStefano advanced to third base on a Cam Caswell hit to second and scored on a fielding error following a White hit.

RPI's fourth run in the second inning followed a similar pattern, coming in on an error. Caswell scored on a throwing error following line drive.

Ithaca scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Hannah Anderson singled to left field before advancing to second on a passed ball.
Abby Shields singled up the middle, scoring Anderson and cutting RPI's lead to 5-1.

In their final at-bat of the game, the Engineers came through with one more run. Hunt led off the inning with a double to right before moving forward on a Maddie Provencher sacrifice bunt. Hunt scored on a Devan Puhl single up the middle to take the 6-1 lead.

The Engineers scored their first run of game two in the top of the second inning.

Provencher led the inning off by drawing a walk before Cavallaro also walked to put a running in scoring position. Provencher scored on a DeStefano single to left for the lone run of the inning.

RPI added another run in the top of the third inning, starting with a White walk to lead off. Hunt laid down a sacrifice bunt to move White forward and White scored on a Victoria Greco double to left field.

The Engineers scored their final three runs in the top of the fourth inning to secure the win.

Puhl led off the inning with a single up the middle before Kienz reached base on a fielding error. DeStephano advanced both the runners on a sacrifice bunt before Caswell was intentionally walked.

Both Puhl and Kienz scored on a White single to right center to give RPI a 4-0 edge over IC. Hunt drove in the final run of the game to give the Engineers a five-run lead which held until the end of the game.

With the losses, IC is now 9-7 on the season with a 0-2 mark in conference. RPI improves to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League.
