Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Brockport and RIT on Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team split a home doubleheader with The College at Brockport and RIT on Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field on Senior Day. Ithaca defeated Brockport in the opener, 15-3, but fell to RIT, 6-3, later on in the afternoon. With the split, the Bombers are now 20-14 overall on the season.

Between games, the five seniors on the team were honored for the commitment and dedication to the baseball program over the past four seasons. This group has led IC baseball to 97 victories, three Empire 8 Conference championships and a trip to the NCAA Division III New York Regional.

ITHACA 15, BROCKPORT 3

Ithaca opened up Saturday's split doubleheader with a convincing 15-3 win over Brockport. IC collected 17 hits on the day and junior Andrew Bailey hit of the cycle.

The Bombers got on the board first against Brockport with a pair of runs on the bottom of the first inning. Junior Webb Little and Bailey reached on singles and came in to score on a dropped fly ball off the bat of junior Jake Generali.

Brockport got a run back in the top of the second on a two-out RBI double to the left-center gap.

In the bottom of the third, the Bombers scored four runs on three hits to build a 6-1 advantage. Bailey led-off the inning with a walk and then S. Little followed with an RBI double to right-center. On the next pitch, Generali drilled a triple to the left-center alley to give IC a 4-1 lead.

Junior Cam Fuoti put the Bombers up, 5-1, on a sacrifice fly to center and then freshman Jack Lynch capped off the rally with an RBI single to plate junior Matt Carey, who reached on a walk and stole second to move into scoring position.

The Golden Eagles pulled back to within four runs, 6-2, in the top of the fourth with a lead-off home run, but IC answered in the bottom half of the frame with two runs to make the score 8-2.

W. Little led off the inning with a walk and came all the way around to score on a triple to centerfield by Bailey. S. Little followed with a single up the middle on the next pitch to bring home Bailey.

Ithaca continued its offensive onslaught in the fifth inning with three more runs, all of which scored on a bases-clearing double by Bailey. Sophomore Andrew Wollner, senior Domenic Boresta and W. Little scored on the extra base hit.

Boresta drove in another run for the Bombers in the sixth with a base hit up the middle to bring in Carey to give IC a nine-run lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bailey completed the cycle with a solo home run to centerfield. Bailey finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Ithaca concluded its 15-run outing with two runs in the eighth. Wollner drove in Carey on a groundout and then W. Little drove in Lynch on a line drive up the middle.

Senior Tyler Hill earned his second win of the season in seven innings pitched. Hill struck out seven batters and allowed three runs on eight hits. Junior Christian LaLomia closed out the game with two solid innings of relief and two strikeouts.

W. Little collected three hits in five at bats, while S. Little, Carey, Lynch and Wollner each had two wins in the win.
