CLINTON, N.Y. – The 19
th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-league regular-season schedule on Wednesday afternoon when it traveled to Clinton, N.Y., to face NESCAC rival Hamilton at Steuben Field. Ithaca continued its positive momentum from this past weekend to score another lopsided victory, besting the Continentals 19-9 to improve to 12-4 on the year.
Â
While matters were close through 30-minutes with Ithaca leading 9-6 at the halftime break, the visitors turned things into a rout during the second session. The nationally-ranked Bombers rattled off six consecutive goals, while they outscored Hamilton 10-3 over the final half to pull away for the runaway win over a team that was ranked in the Top-25 of the IWLCA throughout much of the season.
Â
Leading the way for the Bombers offensively was an absolutely dominant performance by junior attacker
Allie Panara. The third-year player posted a career-high 11 points, scoring a hat trick and dishing out eight assists to lead all scorers. The eight assist effort helped her climb to second on the program's all-time assist list with 90 for her career, passing 2004-graduate Michelle Schlegel (88). She also moved into the Top-10 all-time for career points, passing Katie Hurley '11 (176), Riley Marion '16 (180) and Kim Medla '08 (183) to move into eighth-place with 186 for her career.
Â
The Bombers other two big scorers were also red-hot on Wednesday. Junior attacker
Elizabeth Rice and sophomore attacker
Bailey Herr each notched five goals in the game. For Rice, the five-goal game helped her move into the Top-10 in terms of best scoring seasons in team history. She now has 56 goals, tied for
Ally Runyon '17 who posted 56 in her sophomore season in 2014. For Herr, the five-goal game helped her join Panara and Rice as the third player to eclipse the 60-point milestone this season.
Â
Two other Ithaca players recorded multi-point efforts on the day in sophomore midfielder
Katie Welch and junior attacker
Danika Wagener. Welch tallied three points, scoring twice and adding one assist. It was her fifth multi-point outing of the year. Wagener added two goals, snapping a three-game streak without finding the back of the net. The two-goal effort helped her become the seventh IC player to hit double-digit goals on the year.
Â
Two freshmen rounded out the scoring for Ithaca in
Alex Rabb and
Indira Varma. Each rookie scored one goal in the win. Junior attacker
Maeve Cambria chipped in one assist.
Â
Defensively, Ithaca was relentless in tallying a season-high 25 caused turnovers. Senior
Molly Long had a monstrous game, finishing with a season-high eight caused turnovers and nine ground-balls in the win. Senior teammate
Elizabeth Sauer added five caused turnovers and five ground-balls on the day.
Â
Junior defender
Kaylou Stoddard, as well as Wagener and junior midfielder
Erin McGee each added two caused turnovers in the win. Junior defender
Reid Simoncini added one caused turnover and continued to dominate on the draw with nine draw controls in the contest. Sophomore defender
Becky Mehorter and freshman
Molly Nodiff each had one caused turnover, Mehorter adding one ground-ball and Nodiff collecting two.
Â
In goal,
Kimberly Presuto improved to 12-4 on the year with a solid effort. She finished with four saves, while also collecting a caused turnover and two ground-balls.
Â
Ithaca returns to action this Saturday, April 28, when it concludes the Liberty League slate against RIT. Start time for the contest is 7:00 p.m.
